Here's 7 Reasons Why You Should Be Using Coconut Oil

I am a huge proponent of coconut oil. I firmly believe everyone should use it in one way or another because everyone can benefit from it! Coconut oil is filled with a large amount of saturated fat. But, don't worry, this is the good kind of fat that is healthy for us. I love about coconut oil because there are endless ways to use it! Here are just a few:

1. It does amazing things to your hair

Coconut oil is probably better than any salon quality conditioner out there. If you slather your hair in coconut oil, let it sit on there and work into your hair for a little while (depending on how much hair you have or how damaged it is), then rinse it out and shower like normal. Your hair will feel so soft and luscious afterward.

2. Your skin will get softer

If you make a habit out of rubbing some coconut oil on your legs after you get out of the shower, it will make them feel softer than a baby's bottom. You can also get creative and mix some coconut oil with your favorite lotion to get a nice scent.

3. Prevents heart disease

Since coconut oil is high in saturated fats, it not only increases good cholesterol in your body, but it will also convert the bad cholesterol to good cholesterol! Now, that's a win-win situation.

4. Helps to prevent cancer

When you eat coconut oil, ketones are produced during the digestion of it. Therefore, tumor cells cannot access the energy in ketones to survive.

5. Improves memory and brain function

There have been numerous studies done to show how coconut oil has improved memory and brain function in older people.

6. Prevents gum disease and tooth decay

Oil pulling is an ancient technique used to remove harmful toxins from the body. It's simple and easy to do. You just take about half a spoon full of coconut oil and let it melt in your mouth. Then all you do is swish it around between your teeth for about ten to fifteen minutes. Make sure to spit the oil out when you're done!

7. Helps with weight loss

Incorporating coconut oil into your diet can help you burn fat, decrease your appetite, and helps to build muscle, too! Just a tablespoon of coconut oil per day can go a long way in terms of your health.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
