Especially in college, people everywhere are struggling to find healthy snacks to bring with them wherever they go. People usually tend to gravitate to the unhealthier options, because they are so much quicker. But that is the problem with the quick options- they are fast for a reason, and that is because they are processed and packaged snacks. But, it can be just as easy to get fast snacks, that are way healthier, and will make you feel better and more able to take on the day. All you need is some Tupperware, plastic bags, and boom: instant quick snacks. Side note- I am not a dietetics major, yet, but these were some basic ideas to spark healthy ideas in their mind for on-the-go snacks.
1. Peanut Butter and Celery
Warning: if you are allergic to peanuts, do not eat this snack, obviously. But this snack is full of protein and a delicious way to get protein included in your diet, with easy snaccess (get it, snack + access).
2. Bag of Fruit
You can never go wrong with a bag of sliced apples- or a whole apple- or a mix of berries, grapes, etc.
3. Frozen Grapes
See snack idea number two. Frozen grapes are great for summer or hot days, where you can cool off by eating this healthy alternative, instead of a sugar-loaded popsicle.
4. Hummus and Pretzels
Hummus is a healthy dipping sauce and tastes amazing put together with pretzels. Let's be real; hummus tastes good with anything honestly. All you have to do is take the little hummus containers, and a bag of pretzels, and you have an instant snack put together. They also sell prepackaged pretzel and hummus snack packs at your local grocery store.
5. Peanut Butter and Apple Slices
See warning in idea number one. This healthy option combines idea one and two, has protein and your source of fruit, and can easily be taken on the go.
6. Greek Yogurt with Granola
In case you’re not a fan of peanut butter or fruit, this option is just as easy to take on the go as the above choices. It is a light snack, with added flavor from the granola.
7. Cheese and Crackers
You can easily buy cheese cubes, or cheese slices at any local grocery store, and with another bag for some whole wheat crackers, and that’s a delicious snack for you. It is a source of grains and calcium.
8. Mixed Nuts
Instant protein boost, it can help boost your energy and bring down your hunger levels in an instant.
9. Edamame
Anther source of protein, and don’t knock it until you try it. I used to not even want to give it at try, but now it is one of my favorite snacks.
10. Fruit Smoothie
Smoothies are easy to make, you add fruit, milk, and ice, and a healthy drink you can put in a to go cup and be on your way.
11. Cucumber and Cream Cheese Sandwich
Instead of putting cream cheese on bread or on a bagel, typical bagel brunch style, you can put the cream cheese on cucumber slices and have finger sandwiches. Nutritious and delicious.
12. Dried Fruit
This fruit option can be easier to take than fruit, and is sweet, and of course, healthy.
13. Granola Bars
Although some are unhealthier than others, if you are looking out for the right granola bar, you can easily find a healthy bar to grab on the run.
14. Hard Boiled Eggs
You can prepare these in advance, and then store them in the fridge.
15. Avocado Toast
For this to be quick, it may have to be prepared in advance, but it is too good to not be put on this list. One of my favorites, it is super nutritious and can easily be taken with you for a quick breakfast bite.
