Black Tea
Generally the most popular tea, there are many health benefits that come with drinking even just one cup of black tea a day. Other than being the perfect cup of caffeine, black tea contains polyphenols which are antioxidants that help block DNA damage associated with various toxic chemicals. These antioxidants, along with catechins, theaflavins and thearubigins, prevent several types of cancers, such as, for women – ovarian cancer. A study conducted on elderly people discovered that people consuming 1-2 cups of black tea of day also had a 70 percent lower chance of having or developing type 2 diabetes in the long run. Not only will black tea boost your energy levels, immune systems, and metabolism but it will also help you in the long run to prevent cancers and illnesses and strengthen your overall health.
Green Tea
The hype on green tea is real and definitely worth it. The health benefits that come from green tea are both short and long-term as they help to boost your energy and digestion at the same time. A study published in Green and black tea consumption and risks of stroke: a meta-analysis by Arab L. et al. also shows that individuals who drink three or more cups of tea had a 21% lower risk of a stroke than people who consume less than one cup a day. Green tea is full of antioxidants called catechins that are beneficial to preventing heart disease and cancers, among a number of other illnesses. It can also help improve and strengthen your brain functions including memory. One trick about green tea is that it does not contain too much caffeine as black tea or coffee so it does not give you that “jumpy” feeling you get on a ‘caffeine high’ thus, making your cognitive functions stable and alert. At the same time, it contains the amino acid L-theanine, which crosses the blood-brain barrier increasing the activity of the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA that prevents anxiety. There are many, many more benefits to drinking green tea daily such as fat burning, physical performance, and lowering your risk of Alzheimer and Parkinson’s. There is no doubt that drinking one cup a day can bring a ton of health to your life!
Oolong Tea
Less popular than black or green tea, oolong greatly aids in weight loss while having a high caffeine level. Oolong helps with calorie loss by activating an enzyme that dissolves triglyceride – a form of dietary fat. It also contains polyphenols that are able to block enzymes that build fat. Oolong tea aids in digestion while soothing the stomach with its smooth flavor. It can also act in promoting better skin and healthy hair with its high level of antioxidants. Making a tea rinse out of the leaves can give your hair a thicker and shiner look along with softening it. In terms of body growth, oolong can be effective in preventing osteoporosis and forming strong bones. Drinking oolong daily will decrease mineral density loss and help retain minerals from the healthy foods you consume. The magnesium and calcium within the oolong leaves can be extremely important to your body and its development.
