I'm sure by now we are all aware of what it means to have a "person." Originally created through the hit TV show "Grey's Anatomy," your "person" is someone that is basically your other half: someone who you would call to help hide the body, someone you can just look at and they already know what you're thinking, someone that would take a bullet for you. This is your soulmate. sister from another mister, partner in crime — but what happens when your "person" is more than one person?
It's a completely normal thing to have more than one person. Having multiple people to be able to run to and trust is truly a wonderful thing. Those people are so rare that if you have found those people in your lifetime then you are one lucky person. Here's the type of people that can be your person.
Your Roommate
Your roommate probably knows more about you than you want her to know. She's seen you shamefully heat up left over McDonald's the next morning. She knows you haven't shaved in three two weeks. She knows your favorite shows, your favorite snacks, your filthy bad habits, and what is going on in your life. Your roommate is the late night pillow talk therapist. This person is who you talk to about your day and everything in between. Face it, you live together. This person is undoubtedly going to be your "person" whether you like it or not.
Your Long-Distance Best Friend
More than likely, this person will always be your "person." Every time they come home there is always something to talk about, whether it's people you went to high school with, relationships, ex-relationships, family drama, school, you name it. The great thing about having a long-distance "person" is that once you are reunited, it's like nothing changed. The saying "distance only makes the heart grow fonder" could not be more true for this person, because after all that time apart, spending time with this person only makes it more special. You are back to being your weird self and continue to do the weird things you used to do when they lived near you, like late night fast food runs or sitting on the couch sharing a jar of Nutella. There is no one quite like this person and no one could take their place.
Your Brother/Sister
Whether you have a biological sibling, Sorority sister, or your best friend who could basically pass as your sibling, this will be your closest "person." This is your go-to, wing-woman, partner-in-crime, peanut butter to your jelly. When you hear some drama, this is the person you call. When you want to skip class and go get pizza, this is the person you call. You get in trouble with this person. If you were to end up in jail, this person would be beside you in the jail cell. Whenever you go somewhere without this person, people wonder where this person is because you're always together. This person knows every single thing about your life. You fight sometimes and may not agree on things, but that's because this person is basically you.
Your Mom/Dad
For most people, their "person" is their parent. This is the person you go to for comfort. Your parents have seen you at your absolute life-falling-apart worst and have supported you through your best. When you contemplate quitting your job or dropping out of school, this is who you go to. You are so comfortable with this person, and they will always be someone you can fall back on. You're kind of stuck with this person, but they will love you until the end of time, so it's not such a bad thing to have them around.
Whether you have one "person", multiple "persons", or even if your "person" is your dog, it's essential to have them. Having a "person" is so beneficial to your life and helping you grow as a person. If you have more than one "person," hold onto them. These people are so rare and you only live for so long.
