Its that time of year again in East Rutherford. The Jets secondary is diminishing, the stadium seat prices are lowering, and the only thing the crowd gets excited for is the idea of the young backup quarter coming in to play. The feeling isn't new to us.
As we hit the half way point, the Jets are 3-7, and hope of playoffs are basically impractical. The season began with high hopes as the Jets resigned Ryan Fitzpatrick, and added a versatile weapon in Matt Forte to the backfield, but the players just haven't performed to their best. Ryan Fitzpatrick has displayed little to no Fitz-Magic, as he has had his moments where he shines, but has also been making some of the most bonehead passes and already has thrown 13 interceptions with only 8 touchdowns this season. As Fitz struggles, the main offensive skill players like Brandon Marshall need to see the ball more in order to put some points on the board.
One of the few bright spots on the team this year has been the backfield duo of Forte and Powell. As Forte gets the majority of carries, and Powell works more as the third down running back, Forte has already produced 8 total touchdowns and over 700 rushing yards. The Jets runners have given the fans something to be excited for as we watch on Sundays.
As the year progresses, we will continue to watch each Sunday, and root for gang green. Even as the season looks to be over, there are many questions that must be asked. Is it the end for Fitz-Magic in New York? Is Bryce Petty the future of our team? And most importantly: will we keep Todd Bowles as head coach?
Many are glad that the Jets have a bye this week, just so we don't have to see them play. Deep down, we will continue to root and stand by our favorite team.
