Over the last year or so, the phrase "You thought" has become a common utterance of mine.
But what does that phrase truly mean?
In my opinion, that phrase fits in any situation when someone has you seriously messed up.Sometimes, you use it when someone's acting like your name is Boo Boo The Fool. Sometimes, you use it when you have to set someone straight. Sometimes, you use it when you're attempting to dash the hopes of an enemy. In all cases, 'you thought' is a humorous way to let people know that you aren't here for it.
With that being said, here are some of the best moments in 'you thought' history.
Tayshaun Prince's Block On Reggie Miller
With about 20 seconds left in Game 2 of the 2004 Eastern Conference Finals, Reggie Miller received the ball around the 3 point line, ready to lay the ball in and tie the game up for the Indiana Pacers.
Tayshaun Prince had other ideas.
My favorite part about this play was Miller's insistence that the ball had hit the backboard first, which would've resulted in a goaltending violation and two points for the Pacers. Miller couldn't believe that Prince got there in time. This block is the second best that I've ever seen. What a play!
LeBron Says Sit Down
Remember how I said that the previous block was the 2nd best that I'd seen?
Here's #1.
LeBron literally came from the other side of the court of this one. It was Game 7 of the NBA Finals, for goodness sakes. How he had the energy for this was beyond me.
Dianne Bentley's Revenge Tour
Robert Bentley, Alabama's former governor, was caught using state resources to hide his affair. To avoid impeachment, he resigned. Bentley was only caught because someone turned him in. So who did it?
Bentley's wife, Dianne! Robert Bentley sent inappropriate texts to his mistress, which synced onto a state-sponsored iPad that Robert gave Dianne. From there, Dianne slowly began compiling evidence against her husband, until she turned all of her evidence in and divorced her husband of 50 years.
Taylor the Snake
After Kanye West's track 'Famous' name-checked his incident with Taylor Swift at the 2009 VMA's, Swift responded by giving a fiery speech when receiving her Album of the Year award at the 2016 Grammy Awards:
While Kanye's camp maintained that Swift and West had talked about the controversial lyrics off of 'Famous,' Swift's camp held that Taylor had never heard the actual lyrics and that Kanye's team had only asked for her to help promote the song. Furthermore, Swift's team maintained that she had said no, due to the song's overtly misogynistic message. Given Swift's sterling public reputation, everyone was set to believe her and cast West as the evil, lying, manipulative villain.
Enter West's wife, Kim Kardashian. Kardashian posted a video to her Snapchat account, showing West on video reciting the lyrics to Swift via phone call. On the video, Swift was clearly heard saying, "If people ask me about it, it would be great to tell them, "He called me and told me before it came out. Joke's on you, we're fine!" In the end, though? The joke ended up being on Taylor.
Seattle's Super Bowl Blunder
In Super Bowl XLIX, the Seattle Seahawks were one yard away from scoring and taking the lead with about 20 seconds left in the game. At the time, Seattle RB Marshawn Lynch, known as "Beast Mode," was a member of their team. Lynch was known for doing things like this to other grown men with families:
Surely he can get one yard, right?
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll wasn't so sure. Instead, he dialed up a passing play that called for a "rub route," in which one receiver gets in the way of the defenders so another receiver can be free to catch the ball. While rub routes were, and still are, widely used by NFL teams around the end zone, none of those other teams had the NFL's best power back on their team. In case you're wondering, this was the end result:
Star Seahawks corner Richard Sherman's face after the play says it all:
As someone who bet money on the Seahawks coming out victorious in this game, I still haven't fully recovered.
