Almost every school has a thing that almost every student knows of or does. It is something that we can relate to and laugh about. In this article are some norms are students attending UCLA typically do, know or say. See if you can related!
1. "Ah! Stairs!"
If you live on the hill, you know what I am referring to. The amount of stairs to get to Feast or Rieber seems endless, especially the Aztec stairs right by Cafe 1919. Now imagine having to climb those stairs during Spring when the weather is high 90 degrees. Not only that, nowadays, Rendezvous is relocated up in Hedrick (farthest dorm of dorms). I guess all those stair workouts will make up for the lack of gym most of us are going through.
2. UCLinesAlways
There is rarely any time at UCLA when I do not need to stand in a long line. I mean it helps to teach us to wait at Disneyland and perfect our patience skills. It all just really makes me appreciate the times when I am home, and the line is super short.
3. "You got swipes?!?"
Everyone loves food! That is why everyone, even those living on campus, loves swipes! We always secretly and discreetly try to befriend that person with 19P Plan for eating. For those living in the apartments, it feels amazing when you do not have to go out buy food, and cook it because you have friends that can swipe you!
4. Public Affairs is way too far
The worst thing that can appear on your schedule is having a class in Public Affairs. It is at the corner of the campus! I mean, what more can I say to that? It's a dreadful walk.
5. Powell is too cold
For those that study in Powell, you must have realized by now that Powell gets quite cold. Literally, I wear two sweaters, and it is still not enough. Although, it does get warmer towards Finals Week because almost everyone is there, but throughout the year, it stays chilly. Maybe, it is like that to keep some of us from falling asleep.
6. "Why do I have a midterm 9th week?"
Being a student of the quarter system, examines do get a little weird. Some of my friends have midterms during their second week, while others have it during their 9th week. It does get quite stressful, especially, when we have finals in less than two weeks!
7. We are spoiled with food.
As much as we complain about some of the menus on certain days, we do have the best food on campus. Compared to other universities, we are spoiled, and we realize it, too.
Were you able to relate to any of the seven points mentioned? These are some of the things we have seen, heard or said ourselves. We bond over these things, and eventually when we get older, looking at back, we will be laughing at that time when we call UCLA our home. At the end of the day, we are born Bruins, and will always be Bruins.
