"Do you need help with that?" "Oh, wow. You're actually smart." "I can lift that for you."
I hear these things a lot. I am not quite sure why. I think girls tend to be underestimated. I am little, I am foreign, and I am blonde. Those might all be factors.
There are two ways to take that underestimation -- as a challenge or as an insult. Take it as a challenge. Show up, hustle, educate yourself, and surprise people. I think highly of people that come out of nowhere and come out to be extremely successful.
Now, I don't come from "nowhere;" both of my parents have been hardworking. They've been role models to me all throughout my childhood and have shown me what it takes to be successful. Develop a passion and follow it. One of my passions is fitness. I train every day, I work out and take care of my body by eating healthy and resting enough. You can follow your passions such as drawing, singing, and dancing. Find a passion and be better every day.
Every day is an opportunity to develop yourself and be a better version of yourself. It takes energy, it takes time, but you are young, and you have energy. Make yourself proud and you will realize that when you get underestimated, it's just a compliment for you. Being underestimated means you worked hard to surprise someone; you are better than what they think you are.
I've experienced being underestimated in so many ways. I think it depends on looks and personality a lot about what people expect of you. I have a bubbly personality and am an extrovert. I think if you are more reserved, people associate that with you being a thinker. But, is it really true? I think all types of personalities can have different levels of intelligence and drive. So even though you may be the little, bubbly, outgoing, funny girl, don't let it get to you. Be you, step up and do your thing. Hustle and prove people wrong day in, day out.
Be the person that gets underestimated, but don't let it take you down. Be a better version of you, and be better than what people think of you. There is always room for improvement, so use it.
