5 Daily Struggles Of Being A Female Gym Rat

So you like to go to the gym, but you don't fit in with the rest of the crowd.

Why? Because you're a woman.

The gym can be a safe haven where you can run or squat to your heart's content, or it can be a nightmare where you're ostracized because you can't lift over 150 pounds. Of course, you're not one of the guys, but at the gym, it becomes even more obvious. Here's why:

1. Unwanted oglers

It's butt day! So you put on your favorite pair of workout leggings and get ready to do some squats. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to squat without watching yourself in the mirror and seeing men walk by staring? You know they're not admiring your perfect form because they didn't bat an eye at the dude squatting next to you.

2. Look like Barbie, work out like Ken.

There are many types of gym styles for both men and women. There are the crop top men, the ones who wear deep cut-offs, the ones who wear sweats so all you see is their face, and let's not forget the simple workout tee and gym shorts. For women, there's the tight tank tops and leggings that accentuate your curves, t-shirts and shorts with high socks to prove you're an athlete of some type, or if you want to blend with the boys, you can always rock the deep cut-off to show off your guns. Let's not forget about the days you want to strut around the gym in your sports bra, but the wandering eyes of others are always the added accessory. Men can walk around, abs and pecks exposed for the world to see, but when a woman reveals her mid-section and arms in a sports bra, the heads begin to turn. In the end, it doesn't matter what you wear because you're going to end up sweating anyway. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

3. Sorry, I sweat.

Why do you go to the gym? To SWEAT. If you're anything like me, a good workout ends with so much sweat it looks like you just showered. Unlike the men at the gym, the women look like they barely worked out because they don't have buckets of sweat pouring over them. If you do sweat like a sinner in church, then people give you a look that says, "Oh my God, how gross. She's sweating like a man."

4. Did I ask for your opinion?

No matter how hard you try, you will not be taken seriously by the meatheads. If you're able to lift or squat a certain weight, someone will always have something to say. "Wow! A little thing like you can lift all of that by yourself?" We get it. It's hard to expect a woman to lift, let alone lift that much.

5. Robbed by the rats

Last but not least, God forbid you try to use some equipment that a man needs....There have been many occasions when a male gym rat came up to me, asked me if I was using a certain piece of equipment, and even when I said yes, they would take it anyway. Also, when I've been using the weighted bar or the deadlift platform, I'm always asked, "Are you almost done?" I'm sorry. Why don't you ask the dude next to me who is using the same equipment? I don't want to say it's because I'm a woman because that would be extreme. However, I don't see men taking equipment from a fellow swole-mate.

I think it's rude to interrupt anyone during a workout, let alone rush them. It would be nice to go to the gym without worrying I'm going to have my equipment stolen and my body looked at like a piece of meat. To the guys with gains, remember that women are at the gym for the same reason you are: to pick things up and put them down.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
