I couldn't help but feel personally attacked by the article "Ladies, Nike Shorts and Leggings are for the Gym, Nowhere Else." Why is the author so self-righteous that she need to shame others for not wearing the clothing that you deem respectable? Why is she defining such a narrow standard of beauty based on superficial notions about appearance?
I'm all about dressing nicely sometimes but I do not need to dress up to feel beautiful. I'm beautiful in my Nike shorts. I'm beautiful in my ratty t-shirt and I am drop dead gorgeous in my leggings. Yes, my white converse have danced on one too many frat floors, and I am definitely wearing last night's mascara, but that doesn't give you the right to shame me for it.
While you are spending an hour every night prepping yourself for the next day, I'm using my time more wisely, because there is much more to life than appearance. I'm truly sorry that you can't see that. The leggings I wear to my 9:30 lecture will not affect my success in life.
Shockingly enough, my Nike shorts don't affect my ability to learn.
I don't need another female to shame me for my fashion choices. The fact that you are shaming others so openly says a lot about you. I can — and will — wear absolutely whatever I want because I am an adult. I don't have great fashion sense, I never have and never will. I don't care about what I wear, so why do you? My success in life is not decided by what I wear to my classes.
My beauty is not defined by something so shallow as clothing, and how dare you suggest it is.
Next time, keep your shallow, vain opinions to yourself.
