Almost twenty years later and I'm still known as the girl who's dad brought the helicopter to career week.

Yeah, my dad is pretty cool. But when I was in elementary school, he was even cooler because he worked for the Trauma Hawk. Which for those you not from Palm Beach, is the aeromedical helicopter of the area. They airlift the trauma calls since they are faster than an ambulance traveling on the ground. Well, my dad oversaw this program, which meant that he came to career week every year in elementary school. He also had a memorable speech and made it fun for everyone. But, a few of those years, he actually brought the helicopter to the school.

I mean come on, does it get any cooler than that?!

The answer to that is no, by the way. As an elementary school student, this was probably the single most important event to take place, other than my sister being born of course. But in all seriousness, it was pretty awesome, and everyone else thought so too. I became the coolest girl in school those years, I mean not really. But within my friend group, I was pretty cool.

Even years after that everyone who heard my last name automatically said, “You’re the girl whose dad brought the helicopter for career week!” I was in high school and people were still saying this! I even had a teacher say it to me once, so obviously, the helicopter was a big hit for everyone. I mean, I’m in college now and I have actually heard people say I’m the girl who’s dad brought the helicopter. They were from my area and had seen it, of course, I’m not that cool guys.

It’s been almost twenty years and people still remember the helicopter that came.

So, as you can see, helicopters are a huge hit during career week for elementary schoolers. It leaves them with life-long memories that they will never forget. And it helped me to become cooler than I am actually was, so that’s a plus too. For you future teachers out there, remember helicopters for career week. Also thank you dad for being the coolest and bringing it, allowing me to be the coolest.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
