It's Opening Day, which means baseball season has officially begun. If you're as big of a fan as I am, then you've been waiting for this since the last out of the World Series. There's nothing like spending five nights a week supporting your favorite team for six straight months.
The start of baseball is the perfect way to complement the spring weather. The freezing winter temperatures are finally gone, and coats are starting to make their way to the back of the closet. The grass is getting greener and trees have leaves again. The time has finally come to bring back the jerseys and ball caps. You can feel summer getting closer and closer. Nothing like sitting outside on a warm day, rooting that your favorite player will hit another homer (and having your glove ready to catch it).
Another great thing that baseball comes with is the food. Nachos and peanuts make watching the game even better, whether you're behind the plate or on the couch. If you get a chance to go out to the field, popcorn, frozen lemonade and cotton candy are must-haves. At some point, every baseball fan needs a souvenir helmet bowl for their favorite snack.
One of the best parts about baseball is the seemingly endless season. No having to wait a whole week for the next game; you get one almost every night. Can't watch the first hour of the game? No worries, you've only missed the first few innings. Busy one night? Don't sweat it, there's probably another game the next night.
While basketball fans might disagree, baseball really is an intense sport. However, that's what we like best about it. No, it's not a race against the clock, but literally EVERY pitch counts (See 2011 World Series. Don't worry Rangers, I still love you). A three-run lead can be destroyed in a matter of a few pitches. While you're biting your nails all season and getting heart attacks on a daily basis, it's all worth it when your team makes it to postseason.
Baseball season really is one of the best times of the year. It brings friends and families together to cheer on the team they love, whether it's the MLB or high school, and the players aren't too bad to look at either. Welcome to the start of heat, hot dogs and home runs.
