6 Things I Wish People In My Generation Would Stop Saying

I know what it means but I don't care enough to think it's funny.

I'm considered to be a part of Gen Z. My generation comes right after Millennials. There are so many things said and so many slang words that people my age say that annoy me and I don't think are very funny. This is a list of just a few things I hear or have been told that really just rub me the wrong way.

“That’s the whitest thing I’ve ever heard!”

Someone said this to me when they overheard one of my friends ask me what zodiac I was and I said, "I'm a Sagittarius."...I didn't know talking about zodiac signs proved that I was white. I thought people of all races and kinds could talk about zodiac signs but I guess not.

“America is awful.”

America may have some kinks that need to be worked out, but no place or person is perfect. The U.S is the best country to be in and it offends me when people take everything we have here for granted.

“I’m screaming!!”

Karen. We all know you saw a video on Instagram that made you chuckle just a little and you decided to repost it with "I'm screaming!!" or "I'm dead!" It's annoying. Just say you thought it was funny or something like that.

“Sis…”

I'm not really 100% why this annoys me so much but it does. Just say my name or a nickname you call me. I've had people, who I'm not even close to, call me this and that just makes me even more uncomfortable.

“Fam..”

Just like sis, I don't have a specific reason why I don't like this, but it's annoying too. The only time I've ever even heard this word be used in real life is the underclassman who is emotional over everything and only hangs out with the same 3 people he has been for the last 2 years.

“V…”

I literally didn't know what this meant until about 4/5 months ago. Every time I saw someone say "V cute" or "V expensive" I thought the V was a typo. Just type out the word. I know you know how to because my generation lives off of their phones.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
