Men like sports, and one of those sports is basketball. Playoff basketball is exciting because of its seven game series format. Story lines develop throughout the series and can change from game to game.
This year the NBA finals is between The Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers, which is the same matchup as last year. The Warriors won the series last year in six games, but many felt that they did not earn it. The reason for this was because All-Stars Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love were hurt. After winning game four this year, The Warriors took a 3-1 series lead. This series has now gone to game seven, and it will be played on Father’s Day. Men all over the world are excited for this game, and it will be on their holiday.
When the Golden State Warriors took a 3-1 series lead, the series looked to be over but during game four an altercation happened between LeBron James and Draymond Green. Green appears to hit LeBron James in the groin. This was not seen during the game, therefore Green could not be ejected. The NBA suspended Draymond Green from game five after seeing the video. Draymond Green is a very important player to the Golden State Warriors and not having him made it tough for them to win.
The Warriors starting center Andrew Bogut hurt his knee in game four and is unable to play the rest of the series. Down two starting players, The Warriors had the opportunity to eliminate the Cavaliers, but that did not happen. LeBron James and Kyrie Irving both had terrific games scoring 41 points each and the Cavs won game five 112-97. James and Irving became the first pair of teammates to ever score 40+ points each in an NBA Finals game. The Warriors would have Draymond Green back for game six which gave them another chance to end the series.
The Cavaliers jumped out to a quick lead in the first quarter as the Warriors struggled to score. The Warriors only ended up with 11 points in the quarter while the Cavaliers scored 31. Down 20, this made game six an up-hill battle for the Warriors. In the fourth quarter, the Warriors were down 12 with four and a half minutes to go. The Warriors still had a chance to comeback but MVP Stephen Curry was in foul trouble. Curry would end up fouling out of the game with four minutes and 22 seconds left, on a call that many people do not agree on. The Warriors had just missed a shot and after a LeBron James rebound, Curry was going after the ball. Curry and LeBron get tangled up and LeBron fell on the floor hoping to get a call and got it. This foul got Steph Curry so angry he took out his mouth piece and threw it towards the crowd and it hit a fan. Curry then went after the referee yelling at him and was ejected from the game. This took the life out of the Warriors and they would go on to lose this game. The world saw a different side of their MVP, and many wonder how his emotions will be for game seven.
For years, LeBron James was considered the best player in all of basketball, but due to the Warriors recent success some feel that Curry is better. This is an important game for both of their careers. LeBron has to show that he is still “King James” and not let Steph Curry take the NBA away from him. James can also fulfill his promise to bring a championship to Cleveland.
Cleveland has not won a major sports championship since 1964 and the hometown kid LeBron is looking to change that. Curry on the other hand is a back to back MVP and being a back to back champion would be a great accomplishment. It seems that when you look at the the NBA male fan base, guys either like Steph Curry or LeBron James. Many men get into arguments all the time over who is better -- Curry or James. Well, that argument will be answered on Father’s Day with men all over the world watching. Some men will be in Curry jerseys, and others in LeBron jerseys looking for bragging rights in what will be a great game. Seeing these two players go at it for an NBA Championship is going to be a big treat for fathers and their families to spend time together and witness history.
