Summer 2016 is fast approaching! Everyone is ready for some fun times with friends and family. Whether you plan to spend the summer by the pool, in a tropical location, or your bed, everyone loves summertime. But what happens when the initial excitement of summer is over, and you start to get bored? Here are a few things to do this summer when you get bored...
1. Road trip
Grab your friends and plan a road trip when you get bored! Whether you plan on going to a set location, or just drive until you find somewhere cool, road trips are always a fun option. They can be a cheap adventure, too, as long as everyone pitches in for gas money. Short on cash? Pack a picnic and drive until you find a fun location to have your picnic. Money isn't an option? Drive to a different state for a day trip full of fun adventures with your friends! Who knows what you'll find?
2. Take up a new hobby
When you get bored this summer, find a new hobby to pick up. You could start a scrapbook, take up fishing, become a painter, become a photographer. Summer is the perfect time to try something new! You'll have plenty of time to pick up a new hobby, especially if it is one that becomes time consuming. You could try something new with your friends, or use your new hobby as a way to have some time to yourself. Either way, hobbies are always more fun during the summer!
3. Read a book
Now I know what you're thinking: "I read enough during the school year!" But when was the last time you read something that you actually want to read, rather than reading a textbook for class? Revisit an old book series you enjoyed in high school, read something funny, read something sad, read anything and everything you can get your hands on! There is nothing better than laying out by the ocean while you read an enjoyable book.
4. Learn how to cook
I seriously love watching cooking or baking TV shows, especially competition shows. Why not impress your friends and family with your newfound talent? Baking could also be fun, and especially tasty. Experimenting with foods could be a fun and rewarding thing to do! Your friends and family will thank you for it (if you become good, that is!).
5. Volunteer
Volunteering can be such a fun and rewarding experience. There is always an organization or group that could use assistance! Try your local SPCA for a fun volunteering experience, or maybe you can volunteer at your local library. It would be fun to work with animals or children during your free time! You could find an organization that would allow you to travel for volunteering as well! Volunteering is a wonderful way to put your downtime to good use!
6. Get a job
Working your summer away may not sound fun to you, but for some people it is the only opportunity they have to earn money. Finding a fun job, like lifeguarding at your local pool, or working at your local ice cream shop could be a fun way to spend your free time. Most jobs allow you to tell them how many days or hours per week you would like to work, so you could work as much (or little!) as you would like!
7. Go to a concert or music festival
There is no better way to spend your free time (and hard-earned money) than going to a concert. Hands down. During the summer, outdoor concerts are prevalent, and most music festivals only occur during summer months. Check out Van's Warped Tour or Firefly this summer for an amazing music experience! Go to www.vanswarpedtour.com to find out band information, ticket prices, and locations near you! It's an experience you won't forget!
8. Adventure through your hometown to find something new
Cities and towns are constantly changing. Grab a few friends to explore the town you missed oh so dearly while you were away at college. There are always new restaurants, parks, etc popping up everywhere. Find a place to go go-karting, mini-golfing, or find a new restaurant that serves something strange/unusual. It'll be fun to see where your adventuring can take you, and you won't need to even leave your own town!
Sweet, sweet summertime! Grab your friends and try something new when the boredom hits. Whether you're spending your entire paycheck, or making due with what you've got, summer is the perfect time to make your own fun! Make a bucket list this summer with your friends, and you'll make summer 2016 one for the books.
