To The Friends Who Always Find The Silver Lining

You have taught me that there is no time for negativity.

I do not understand how you do it; I hope that someday I do. Every time something goes wrong, every time you struggle, you manage to find something positive. You turn around anything negative that you come across into a benefit.

You tell me that it's because we do not have a lot of time in this life, so why waste it being upset about something? Why do we spend our time dwelling on our failures and less time focusing on what we can do to ensure that we don't fail again? I have tried to figure it out. I have tried to adapt your way of thinking.

It's hard.

Having you in my life shows me that it can happen. Having someone like you makes me believe that I can share in your outlook on the world. I have struggled with seeing only the negatives in my life. I have fought through hard times and hated myself along the way. I have never looked forward to what tomorrow has to bring...until I met you.

“Yesterday is not ours to recover, but tomorrow is ours to win or lose.” - Lyndon B. Johnson

You live your life by this quote. You have a way of letting go of the things that you know you cannot fix or change. You're ability to do this astounds me. You forget what happened yesterday or even a few hours ago and focus on the new things to come.

Our happiness does not come from what we are provided with or what others can give us. It does not come from our achievements or our material possessions. It comes from our overall outlook on the world. Your outlook is the best one I have seen thus far.

I would like to thank you for that.
Thank you for showing me that there are positive people left in this world. Thank you for allowing me the time to get to know you and attempt to understand your way of thinking. Please never let your positivity fade; it makes you a great person and gives everyone around you a positivity that they may not have had before.
I admire you.
Thank you for that.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
