As freshman year came to a close what better way to describe the experience by using Grey's Anatomy. There was up, downs, and everything in between for my first year of college but one thing is for sure I made many memories. We experienced things we never thought that we would experience in our lifetime but then we came to college. Here are 16 things that every freshman experienced during their first year of college.
1. Not living at home anymore
Yes, the freedom is wonderful, no parents equal no rules. After eating whatever you want and going to bed whenever you want you soon to realize though you have to learn to be an adult and you miss your parents. There was times when you had to ask yourself "what would the responsible me do" and there were times when you said, "screw it I am only young once." You had to make sure you stayed responsible and know your limits but having no one tell you want to do though still rocked and you knew you were going to miss it when you came home during breaks.
2. Meeting your new friends
Everyone meets their best friends in college. You are forced to do team building activities for orientation week so you are bound to find someone you might get along with. You soon though find that someone who has the same love for food as you do so no more going to the cafeteria alone. You also find out that they also like to avoid their responsibilities also so they are also there when you want to do anything but study. It was a surprise that you could meet those people who mean so much to you and you only have known them for a couple of months.
3. Pulling those all nighters
4. Going out
5. When your friends give you a pep talk
Now first off thank those friends who were there for you during your first college mental break down. We have had this experience it so it was nothing to be embarrassed by. They give us their greatest pep talk that they can come up with while you are hyperventilating. You freak out about the test that you have coming up or that you haven't started your paper yet that is due in three days. Since they are great friends they tell us everything that we need to hear and how great we are. Then when they are done helping you out they will probably make fun of you so just let them have their fun because when they are crying to you it is your turn to make fun of them of course after you help them out.
6. When you realize you have a crush
You lock eyes with the cute guy in your English class. You think about his perfect smile while also trying to pay attention to what you professor is saying. You go and tell your friends while planning out the wedding that you two are going to have. You try and look your best whenever you have class with him since of course he will notice that blue shirt of yours or that you curled your hair that day.
7. Finals-nothing more said
8. Having multiple breakdowns after your first one
You have one you are bound to have many. Oh, and you know what it gets easier each time you have one because you are less embarrassed each time. You will be more comfortable having a mental break down anywhere you are; your room, the cafeteria, the library, anywhere on campus. This time, the hyperventilating is everything that came your way this week not just your homework so just take deep breaths, everything will work out. The mental breakdowns I heard though keep happening as you go through college so never think your last one will be your last.
9. Eating the cafeteria food
There is no food that ever taste like your campus cafeteria food. Those who ate it know exactly what I am talking about. You didn't even know that some of the food existed until you saw it on the menu for that day. You also questioned whether that would pass the food inspector or if they just were going to take chances. All you know is that some days the food was just okay and other days you would rather just starve. The one thing though that was always good was the desserts so you would never miss a day just in case it was something good on the dessert table.
10. Loud neighbors
Living in the dorms you were custom to have loud neighbors. It did not matter what time of the day or night it was there was someone who was always loud. You never wanted to complain though because then you would seem like the rude one. I don’t know how many times I was trying to take my daily nap and people were running up and the down the hallway. Every time you would forgive them though because well you had to keep living with them and no one wanted drama on the floor. You also let it go because you knew that it was destiny that you and your friends were going to be loud and you hoped no one was going to say anything because you didn't.
11. When your friends ask you to do something
12. Having no money
I never took that college made you poor but when I realized sometimes that I only had 20 dollars in my bank account it was very true. Not having any money meant that you had to eat the nasty cafeteria food and always had to say no to going out to eat with your friends. When you did find money in your bank account though it was like you were a little kid on Christmas and you spent it as fast as you found it. #eatingouteveryday
13. Waking up with a hangover and never learning
So when going out to turn up with your friends you always drank a little more then you should even though some were telling you to stop. You would wake up the next day cursing at the sun and anyone who made loud noises. You would live off of water and aspirin and try to find the greasiest food because you knew that is and always will be the hangover cure. You knew exactly what would happen when you went out and you just never learned. Except you did know that nothing was going to get done that day except lots of sleep and you would finish a season or two on Netflix
14. When you don’t care about the freshman 15 anymore
Everyone warned you about the terrible curse, the freshman 15. It made you eat healthy for the first month and to never look at chocolate cake for about a week. When you realized that you were going to gain weight no matter what you picked up the phone and ordered pizza because you just did care. Ice cream was your best friend when you were stressed and your drink of choice on the weekends was not water so thank the sugary drinks also for your weight gain.
15. When you realize you didn’t fail any of your classes
The moment of truth when all the grade were in and you looked at them with one eyed open. When you saw not one “F” on your transcript the whole world was right again. The late night studying and homework was all worth it because you did not fail your first year of college. You then sleep for a week straight during break because you lacked a semester or two of no sleep.
16. When you realize you actually made it through your first year
As finals are done and people are packing up to go home you realize that you are going to miss freshman year. You are going to miss all of your friends that you made and can’t wait though to room with your closest friends next year. No matter how happy you are that you finished you realize that freshman year is now part of the past and no other year is going to live up to being the "fresh meat" on campus
