As beautiful, wonderful exam season rolled around last November, I -- like most other college kids -- didn't really pay attention to anything else going on. And as luck would have it, I tore my last pair of contacts right before my dance team photoshoot (this is what we call "pulling a Suj"). I had been meaning to set an appointment with the optometrist for some time, but being the forgetful person that I am, I would always forget until I was out of contacts. My choices were, wear only my right contact and an eye patch over my left eye (I'd be one amazing pirate, mind you) or wear glasses for the month leading up to my optometrist appointment. Sadly, although I would have loved to wear an eyepatch around campus for a month, I decided to just wear my glasses. Being the fool that I am, I thought that this would be easy, not really paying attention to all the things that would become harder and more complicated to do with glasses on. Here is my list of the everyday things that become so much harder with glasses on.
1. Finding proper glasses placement.
If they are too close to your eyes then your eyelashes get smushed, and if they are too far then you look like some weird librarian or granny.
2. Putting on makeup.
3. More specifically putting on eyeliner.
4. Lying on your side.
5. Running, dance or any sort of exercise.
6. Playing sports (basketball is the worst).
7. Anything having to do with seeing in the rain, or the fog.
8. Riding roller coasters (yes, I was the fool at Universal Studios holding my glasses on my face on the Dr. Doom's fearfall ride).
9. Trying to swim and see clearly.
10. Water parks.
11. Anything having to do with peripheral vision.
12. Looking like you belong at a club.
13. And when you do take your glasses off at a club, trying to see.
14. Draining pasta.
15. Drinking a hot beverage (especially in a professional setting).
16. Not being able to see when you get out of the shower, because your glasses are foggy.
17. Not being blinded by the sun, because your sunglasses don't fit over your glasses.
18. Putting on sweaters, tops, or shirts with your glasses on.
19. Not being able to take nice photos, because of glasses glare.
20. Remembering to take off your glasses to take nice photos.
21. Bending down to pick up something.
All I can say after this hellish month of wearing glasses nonstop, is thank god for contacts.
