"Find rest, oh my soul, in God alone" -Psalm 62:5
Rest. Do we even know what rest is anymore? Between the going and the shopping and the studying and the working, rest seems foreign to our hearts and minds. Although it is crucial, it is so underrated these days.
School and personal life are stressing me out right now. I am trying to make every relationship I have a priority, which is great but tiring. I am trying to finish school as early as I can, which is great, but again, tiring. Sometimes, scratch that, most of the time, I forget that rest alone with God is the most important fuel to get through my day. Just 15 minutes of it can help to refresh your mind and motivate you to get those relationships right and to stay focused studying for those classes.
For college students, this month of April is often one of the most stressful. Some are graduating, some are trying to pass crucial classes with a high grade, and some are contemplating dropping out because it is just. too. much. Since coming to college, I have learned a few things. However, no matter how many times I tell myself that rest is important, I can't bring myself to do it. So here are a few tips on finding that rest throughout your day.
Bring a bible with you wherever you go. If that isn't your thing right now, bring a book. When you find some down time, crack it open, and read a chapter or two. Reading is very refreshing and helps to calm your mind to focus on one thing instead of racing around on 20 different things every two minutes.
Light some candles and sit and watch some Netflix, or add some epsom salt and essential oil to your bath tub and hop in. Candles alone, when lit, relax me.
Get on pinterest and find a meal that looks great, go to the grocery store to get ingredients, and cook a meal. Cooking, just like reading, causes you to focus on one thing. Plus, if you are really stressed about school or work, you probably haven't had a good meal. Sit and eat one.
You, like me, probably know how important rest is. It's the actually resting part that is difficult. It usually tends to get away from us and before we know it, the only rest we find is the four hours of sleep we get a night (which is not nearly enough).
So let's do this. Close your computer, do something you have been itching to do- rest.
Blessings,
Ash
