For My Family On Thanksgiving

I feel as though it is incredibly important to display our gratitude for the people that make a difference in our lives.

For My Family On Thanksgiving
Gina Brennan

As the holiday season is officially upon us, it's important to remind ourselves that, not only is it a time to express our love for one another by giving gifts, it's also a time to surround ourselves with those whom we love and appreciate the most. I have spoken many times about my love for my family, as well as the impact they have had on shaping me into the woman I am becoming. Yet, it is at this time of year that I grow rather sentimental in the ways of reflecting on how much I truly appreciate their presence in my life.

Coming from a particularly large family, it is needless to say that my relatives and I are all traveling on roads that are leading us down different paths. As most of these paths and everyday lifestyles do not intertwine as often as I would like them to, I find myself eager to stay connected with my family at every chance I get. Some of us have moved away in hopes of pursuing our passions, whereas others have been forced to remain centered upon upkeeping these passions that it becomes far more difficult for us to see one another. I look toward Thanksgiving and Christmas because I know that I will finally have the chance to put life aside for a brief second, and simply listen-listen to stories, both new and old, of the memories that my family has shared and the proudest of moments we create as individuals. As I myself have become increasingly overwhelmed with regulating my own schedule, I long for the days in the near future where my family and I will be able to sit down together, share a meal, and truly reconnect.

As each of us continues to embark on new journeys, I feel as though it is incredibly important to display our gratitude for the people that make a difference in our lives-not only in this incredible season, but throughout the entire year. To my extended relatives, as well as to my cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents that I may not have been able to visit with much this year, I am incredibly blessed to call you my family. Although I may not see you often, it is imperative that you know how grateful I am for your endless support of my writing, my studies, and my choices in about my future. I am beyond appreciative of the affirmation I receive from each of you as you encourage me to achieve new goals and push beyond limitations. You inspire me deeply, as well as motivate me to continue moving forward in pursuit of my own passions. I have an incredible love for all of you, not only in this time of Thanksgiving, but always.

I hope that each of my readers may take this time to reconnect with their own families. I hope that you share nothing but laughter and create beautiful memories throughout this time of hopefulness and togetherness. I wish you all a blessed Thanksgiving, and the happiest of holidays.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
