It's that time of year again, as the days get shorter, and colder, sports at University of Wisconsin begin to once again become popular amongst the students. This year, with the recent success of the football team, much has been made of a potential spot in the prestigious College Football Playoff. Should the Badgers' dominance of the turf continue, that potential spot could become a reality, and it has the students buzzing.
"It would be so cool to be apart of as a student, and an awesome way for the Badgers to finally win some national attention," Jake Danielson said, a freshman here at University of Wisconsin.
Just this past week, the Badgers rose to number five in the college football playoff rankings, setting themselves in perfect position to control their own hopes of making the playoff moving forward.
Last time Wisconsin was part of the national picture like this was in 2015, when the men's basketball team made a run to the national championship game against Duke, led by Sam Dekker and Frank Kaminsky. The Badgers football run has a bit of a different feel to it though, a youth movement of sorts. Freshman Jonathan Taylor and Sophomore Alex Hornibrook have been the catalysts behind the young offensive attack, and have been backed by a loaded defense along the way, led by junior D'cota Dixon.
With games against Minnesota, and the Big Ten Championship game remaining, Wisconsin must be on top of their game to clinch a spot in the playoff, where a tougher task awaits. Should the Badgers execute and gain a playoff berth, expect the city of Madison to once again be as excited as it was in 2015.
