Florida football is, undoubtedly, on the verge of succumbing to another 4-8 season, like last year. From Driskel's inability to function like a Division One quarterback, to the Gator's defensive woes, Florida fans should have a lot to worry about as this may be the beginning of a consecutive season slump that has not been seen since the '70s. However, the Gators have pulled off major wins in times of desperation. With LSU at home, Florida looks to carry out such a triumph in order to keep their bowl eligibility alive and their dignity intact. Here are three strategies the Gators must entertain to bring home a victory.
Take advantage of the turnovers
Despite LSU's 63-7 romping of New Mexico State, the Tiger's did not live up to their on paper hype as they committed many turnovers. Tiger's starting
quarterback, Anthony Jennings -- a potential mold of Jeff Driskel --
entertained three of LSU's four turnovers in the first quarter and completed two of five passes for 11 yards, before being replaced by a backup freshman. So Gator's D, what should you do if you force a turnover? Hmm... that is right, score! Instead of having to torture millions of Gator fans, and yourselves, with an offense that would rather be sipping Gatorade on the sidelines, you take command and draw a win.
Stop the run
LSU centers a majority of its offense around the run game, averaging close to five yards per carry. If the Gator's want to maintain a defensive hold on the Tigers, their best bet is to close the gaps within the defensive line and shut down every opportunity LSU has on the ground.
Home field advantage is an asset
The Swamp is, hands down, one of the toughest sporting venues in the United States. With a climate that is usually warm and humid, and sometimes exceeds temperatures of over 100 degrees at field level, teams can become disoriented. We, as Gator fans, must show 100 percent support for our boys by making as much noise as possible to provide another handicap for the LSU offense and, hopefully, secure a win. Geaux Gators!
