We've all had those days, the ones where we walk around aimlessly with no direction. Life gets very mundane, and that's why we have to make sure we take care of ourselves! I don't just mean our physical health; although that is equally important and intertwines with it, but I'm also talking about our emotional selves. If we don't keep that in check just like our physical health, it can cause problems. Here are some ways we can make sure we are on the right track.
1. Drink that water and eat healthy, kids!
Yes, I know it's cliche and people say it all the time, but even being mildly dehydrated can make you irritable and not that much fun to be around. You know who you are; and no one likes to be around you when you're angry. Ideally you need to have two liters per day. What I do, is get a big two liter jug, and force myself to drink it all every day. Sometimes I fail, but what's important is that you keep on trying. Maintaining a healthy diet is also hard, but eating gmo's and processed food literally changes our mind and the way we function. So before you think you're having an emotional breakdown, ask yourself if there's something you can change in your diet that could help even out your moods.
2. Make your room your sanctuary.
When you have a messy room, you start to feel overwhelmed. Make your room the one place that you can relax and unwind from your day. Get the clutter out, and make it more peaceful. Doing small things like hanging up relaxing lights, putting out candles or an essential oil diffuser can add to the feel of your room. I love to have fresh cut flowers on my dresser whenever I can. That simple thing brings up my mood.
3. Keep your work at work.
I know it's tempting to talk about work and complain about it, but when you get home, you really should limit it. Have a specific time where you talk to your significant other about it, but don't let the negativity of whatever is going on effect you both the rest of the night. It's not fair that your family gets the brunt of your mood when they didn't do anything to cause it.
4. Plan chill out time.
Here in America we like to think that stress equals our worth. If you want to be that way, good luck with that. It won't get you very far. Our bodies and mind need rest. We need to take a long bath, do a face mask, Netflix binge some shows; and that's okay! Don't feel guilty for not having something scheduled every minute of every day. You will be much happier and the people around you will thank you as well.
5. See a counselor
I know venting to your friends can feel like it amounts to therapy.; but seeing a great qualified counselor can really help sort things out. It's a wonderful gift to have someone with an objective view on your life. They can help you see things in a way you never would have. You don't have to be "crazy" to go to therapy. It doesn't mean your life is falling apart. It means that you take your well being seriously and are taking steps to improve your life.
