10 Things You Should Ask On A First Date, Don’t Wait

Is it okay with you that I have an essential oil vape?

I went on a first date last week and believe it or not, it was a lot of fun. Super nerve-wracking and wow, why did we choose the hottest day of the year for this? But fun nonetheless.

There were a handful of questions that I noticed kept popping up that really helped shape the date and made me feel a lot closer to the person. Maybe there's some in here that you can sprinkle in on your next first date, too.

1. What's your star sign?

Don't underestimate the power of the stars! I'm fine with any sign, but I need to know ahead of time if I'm starting something with a Gemini.

2. What's your personality type?

If I ask you this question and you give me a blank stare in return, I'm not gonna lie, you lose a couple of points. But not many. I'm referring to the Meyers Briggs Personality Test that tells you four of the most important letters in your life.

3. What's your relationship with your parents?

Don't be afraid of the intensity of this question. It's an important thing to know. If I've learned anything from my years in therapy, it's that our parents impact our lives more than we think.

4. What are your dealbreakers?

Might as well get them out in the open from the start and figure out what can be negotiated and what can't be.

5. Do you have any dietary restrictions?

This one matters a lot when it comes to going on dates and even picking up little sweet surprises throughout the relationship. If you're vegan and I'm picking the restaurant, I have to do a little more research ahead of time.

6. Are you religious?

Wanna know what prompted this question on my date? We were on a walk and we passed a dead squirrel. Do we have a squirrel funeral? Do we say a squirrel prayer? Do we continue walking, basking in the nothingness of the squirrel? This is why that question matters.

7. What's your middle name?

Something about middle names always feel a little sacred to me. It's this thing that's hidden but also in plain sight. Knowing it makes you feel like you're in on who that person is just a little bit more.

8. Favorite flower?

I think a person's favorite flower says a lot about them as a person. Are you more of a rose or a sunflower?

9. Is it okay with you that I have an essential oil vape?

... Okay, yeah, this one might be more of an only me thing. But seriously, have you tried these?

10. Will there be a second date?

This may be the most important question of them all. Godspeed.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
