"Inner happiness actually is the fuel of success"- John Hagelin
When times are tough, you feel your body and mind go numb as you stare into the distance at a dull future. Each day goes by in a blur and even though you can't recall what happened 24 hours ago, the empty feeling in your stomach is there each day, as is the suffocating pain in your chest known as heartache.
Joy is only temporary and when that subsides everything becomes lonely. A life without happiness is a miserable life which seems to be only out to get you. Sometimes you can't pinpoint where the sadness is coming from which makes finding your inner zen even harder and that is why you should take the necessary steps to try to feel whole again.
1. Surround yourself with positive people
Keep the adventurous, humorous, and caring people in your close circle. Life brings many ups and downs and we always need a friend or relative to lean on. You're less lonely and depressed when you have friends in your life.
2. Get enough sleep and eat healthy
You will automatically be more upbeat if you wake up each day feeling refreshed. Getting your 8 hours of sleep and providing your body with the nutrients it needs will help you turn your frown upside down. Instead of going through the day feeling sluggish, you will have a hop in your step and everyone around you will see a change in your behavior.
3. Exercise
Sweat out the bad to make room for the good. Push yourself to new limits and reduce your fatigue by creating a daily workout routine. Burn your stress while you burn calories by going to the gym or taking your dog on a walk in your neighborhood.
4. Meditate
No, you won't look silly meditating. Actually, it's more popular than you think! When you meditate, a calm takes over your body and slows down the beta waves in your brain. Take slow and deep breaths. Concentrate and open your mind to your surroundings. Meditating among the peacefulness that nature provides will help bring positive vibes your way. Try meditating on a beach or among the tall trees in a forest.
5. Talk about your feelings
It's okay to be scared to talk about your issues, but getting them off your chest will bring relief and closure to your life. Confiding in a trusted friend or family member can help, but if that isn't working, try reaching out to a therapist. Don't be embarrassed, because we all have issues that require professional help.
6. Try new things
Find something that makes you smile. Do not rely on another person's happiness to fill the void in your heart. Find a healthy hobby that you enjoy and keep yourself busy with it. Get better at it and be proud of what you conquer and learn from it. Make sure to keep identifying with what makes you happy. A lot of people stop doing what makes them smile because of the amount of effort needed to be put into it. Think of yourself as a plant. A plant can only flourish if it is taken care of properly over time. Make sure that you care for the thing that makes you happy and keep it alive and a part of your daily routine.
7. Love Yourself
Love your fat, stretch marks, pimples and all. You are unique, powerful, strong, and can do anything you put your mind to. Don't identify yourself by tragedy, sadness, or illness. Be the best you and positive results will come!
8. Work On You
The most important relationship in your life is the one with yourself. Allowing yourself to accept that mistakes are made is a trait that will build your character. Don't be so harsh on yourself; everyone makes mistakes and life is one big learning process.
9. Welcome Change
We shy away from major changes in our lives because they are scary and new. You feel as if a part of your life has been removed and you don't know what to do about the empty feeling. Embrace the new people and events in your life. You have to be open to other beliefs, opinions, lifestyles, and feelings in order to help you grow. Have courage to let go of the old you and your old ways so you can make new memories.
10. Keep Moving Forward
People strive for perfection, but we know that it is unattainable. With every new day comes new challenges, accomplishments, and mistakes. Always try your best and you will get results. Your goal is long term and it is to be a happier and healthier person. It may take time because life will deal you the occasional setbacks, but keep moving forward and be thankful for your life. The goal is constant progress!
