How To Find Beauty In Your Imperfections

Have you ever looked in the mirror and stared at yourself for minutes at a time? Do you examine yourself from head to toe and focus on your imperfections? I know I have done this multiple times and I can say that it is a habit I must get rid of immediately. When we look in the mirror every day, we point out what looks good to us and what doesn’t. There are some things that we do not like about ourselves physically, but we must learn to find beauty in our imperfections. Here are three tips people have shared with me to find the beauty in my imperfections:

Repetition is Key

As you look at yourself in the mirror, pick something that you love about your features. For example, if you love the shape of your lips or the color of your eyes, say it out loud and keep repeating it. I know it may be difficult at first, but I would encourage you to do the same for the features that you do not love. Although you may not love the features that you dislike, eventually you will learn to love them because repeating these affirmations daily will allow you to see the beauty in your imperfections. You will begin to see the good in your imperfections and focus less on the bad as a result. So remember that repetition is the key to finding the beauty in your imperfections.

Each Imperfection Is Unique

What you believe to be an imperfection is what makes you who you are. Your imperfections are what makes you original and distinct from everyone else on this planet. Each imperfection that you have is unique, so you should learn how to embrace your imperfection and appreciate it. One should also realize that their imperfections, whether they are internal or external, are not your weaknesses but your strengths. You can treat your imperfections as your strengths by altering your perception of them. I had to practice changing my views about my imperfections and accept them because without them, I would not have my own individual makeup. I would be like everyone else and where is the fun in that.

Love Your Flaws and All

Learning to love your imperfections will put you on the path to loving yourself. You are your biggest critic, therefore, what you say about yourself is definitely harsher coming from you than anyone else. Instead of putting yourself down and constantly focusing on your flaws, focus on how your flaws can make you a better person or contribute to your growth. Profit from your imperfections in any way because they are an extension of you.

It is important to find beauty in your imperfections because your imperfections are what make you yourself. Our imperfections are what separates us from other people, which makes each and every one of us different. With that said, we must embrace our imperfections instead of being ashamed of them. Granted it will take lots of practice to do so, but each day you will get closer to loving things about yourself that you once hated or disliked. Pretty soon you will be on the highway to happiness by falling in love with yourself because you took the steps necessary to see the beauty in your imperfections. You can thank me later by starting today and beginning your journey. Enjoy!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
