The Finals are slated for Thursday, June 4th in the Bay area as the Cleveland Cavaliers face up against the Golden State Warriors. Although we may all be aware of who both of these teams are, it's wise to know what is on the line for both of these teams as they prepare to face off in what is shaping up to be one of the greatest Finals match-ups in a while: Chef Curry vs. King James.
1. This would be the the first trip to the finals in 40 years for the Warriors. The Warriors have been seen throughout this finals as the team that have no experience in the Finals. This would seem to have them at a disadvantage, however that doesn't seem to be the case. The way the Warriors are playing, they have the best chance at beating the Cavaliers.
2. This would be the first championship in the Cavaliers' long history. They are currently in a drought and haven't won a title since their founding in 1970. They have made a finals appearance in 2007, but were swept by the San Antonio Spurs which lead to the eventual departure of LeBron James to the Miami Heat.
3. Steph Curry is this year's Most Valuable Player in the NBA. He's a different breed of basketball player, his shot is probably the most effective shot in the NBA, maybe even in the history of the NBA. He has lead the NBA for three straight years in three-point field goals made and has the quickest release for shooting a basketball, set at 0.4 seconds. He's going to be the catalyst for this Warriors team throughout these Finals.
4. The Cavaliers are battling many injuries. The Cavs have been riddled with injuries throughout the regular season and the playoffs. Kevin Love is out with a shoulder injury, Kyrie Irving is not at 100 percent due to battling with tendinitis in his knees, and Anderson Varejao left halfway through the season with a torn Achilles. Even LeBron is battling high fatigue levels.
5. Both of these teams are top two in defense for the playoffs. Each of these teams plays outstanding defense and it will be interesting to see how each team will try to contain the star player on the opposition.
6. The Splash Brothers are the best backcourt in the NBA today and will both pick apart the opposing team with their three point abilities, as well as their ability to move the ball around and make plays for themselves and their teammates.
This year's NBA Finals will be a great one and, if you are remotely interested in basketball, I suggest that you watch this one because it will be very interesting to watch. Personally, I have the Warriors winning in 6 games and Steph Winning MVP honors. The Warriors just have more depth to their team and are able to hit you from every position on the court, I don't think the Cavaliers have enough healthy fire power to combat what the Warriors have.
