Thank you for such great memories.

Farewell To The Joe

Last week I got to leave my mark on one of my favorite buildings in Detroit: Joe Louis Arena. Thanks to my father, I'm a very big Red Wings fan so when I saw the ad for "Paint the Joe" I was immediately like Fry from Futurama and shouted "take my money!"

My boyfriend had been wanting to do a date night downtown, so I figured this was the perfect date for both of us. The event was very well organized and we both had a lot of fun looking at all the old pictures hung up around the Joe and taking a few pictures of our own.

It saddens me to hear that the Joe is being torn down especially with as much history as it has, but I do realize that it's time to move on to the LCA (I'm still not happy about the name and refuse to say it). If the walls at the Joe could talk, I know that they'd tell some amazing stories. One of them being my all time favorite: Turtle Day. A day I will never remember seeing because I was only a day old sitting in the crook of my father's arm, but will always go down as one of the best fights in hockey history.

Sadly, I've only been to three games at the Joe. One pre-season game and two season games, but my best memory will always be painting the ice. I got to walk out on the ice, sit on the bench as well as the penalty box, and got to view the whole arena from the same place my favorite players did. It was every hockey lover's dream. It was even better because it was on my friend's birthday who had passed away two years prior. The day is usually hard for all of us, so the event was the greatest distraction I could have. I even made sure he left his mark there as well.

So I wanted to say thank you to the Joe Louis Arena as well as the Red Wings for 4 beautiful Stanley Cup wins, many great fights, as well as wonderful memories. It was very sad to see you go, but you're passed your prime. You've been good to us, I just hope they're as good to you as they take you apart. No matter where the Wings go, 19 Steve Yzerman drive will always be my home away from home. Thanks for the memories, Joe. We'll miss you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
