FanGirling At Its Finest

You know... it hasn't always been cool to be a hardcore Taylor Swift fan. But, I've been fangirling since DAY 1.

Taylor Swift... Mega Pop Star, Sweetest Human on the Planet. How can you not love her? Oh yeah. I forgot. People love to hate her. "Haters gonna hate." Am I right?

Alright, so let me lay it all out: the 13 reasons (Tay's lucky number) as to why I am utterly obsessed with this human being and why you should be, too. (I could write out 89 reasons, but I don't want you to hate me after reading this.) Here we go:

1. She's an AMAZING singer-songwriter and musician.

She writes ALL of her own music. It comes straight from the heart. Sure, many of her songs are inspired by her current and past relationships. But, please tell me one artist, male or female, that doesn't do the same exact thing. Exactly. Taylor's lyrics are magically constructed in a way that you can't help but love them. You can find lyrics in every song to relate to. Her songs tell a story. She isn't just throwing a bunch of words together that rhyme.

Did I mention her voice? You have to experience a concert to hear for yourself. When people say she can't sing, I can't help but laugh because her voice gives you the chills. It's insane. She plays the guitar, banjo, piano, and ukulele while singing. I don't understand. How does she do it?

2. She's genuine.

Honestly, I don't get how people can criticize Taylor. She is one of the most down-to-earth, nicest human beings you will ever meet. (Sadly, I haven't met her yet, but so I've heard.) I have never heard of a time where she was rude to anyone, even when they treated her really badly. It takes a certain person to ignore the way that the media has treated her over the years. Taylor wasn't always popular growing up, which is really hard to believe, but her genuine nature has gained her some amazing friendships over the years. Her kindness is contagious. Everyone wants to be friends with her now. Her #SQUAD is made up of some of the most popular, and sweetest celebrities. She surrounds herself with ambitious, strong women. When she looks out into a crowd, and just smiles for minutes at a time, she isn't putting on an act. She is actually amazed at how far she has come. You can't blame her for wanting to take it all in. It's the cutest thing.

3. She treats her fans like her friends. She is on our side, always.

You don't find celebrities every day that go out of their way to get to know their fans. She does this on a daily basis. Whether it's giving advice on life, love, or just sending love or words of encouragement to a fan dealing with loss or going through a rough patch, she is ALWAYS there. She's been this way for her entire career. It is something that will never change. Taylor knows that without her fans, she would not be where she is today. So many stars thank their fans for all they do for them, but no one has, or ever will, reach out to her fans like Taylor does. There aren't many stars who give back to their fans like this. It's truly incredible. If you aren't a Taylor Swift fan, believe me, you're really missing out. This past year, she invited fans to all of her extravagant houses to listen to "1989" before it was released. She trusts her fans. Now that's something. LIKE, WHO DOES THAT? Can we talk about Swiftmas? She would comment on fans posts on Tumblr with a "Santa Emoji" and then would send them personal gifts. WHAT EVEN? There has never been a time when Taylor is out in public where she will ignore a fan that wants a picture or an autograph. She will sit there, and have a full on conversation with you like you've known each other for years. Sometimes I forget that she's the biggest pop star on the planet because she acts like one of us. The amount of fans that have been chosen to meet Taylor over the years is amazing. Every fan experience of meeting her is unique, and so incredible. I just hope it happens to me one day!

4. She "never goes out of style."

Her style has changed many times over the years. She was the country-sweetheart for the longest time, with her long, curly blonde hair and would rock her cute little country dresses and cowboy boots. She had that fairy tale mindset where she always wanted to be a princess, so her style followed that trend. As she matured, so did her style choices. She started to embrace the 60's fashion trends because she loved that time frame. Taylor has always possessed a sophisticated, classy fashion taste. She has never been the celebrity to dress scandalous. Heck, she doesn't even like to show her belly button. Again, she's been criticized for some of her fashion choices. People say she's too conservative or that she dresses like a grandma. She's just a classy chick that appreciates old fashioned trends. What's so wrong with that? All of her outfit choices suit her. Nowadays, everyone is trying to copy Taylor's style. She is in her prime this era, and her outfit choices are so confident. Never in a million years would you see her strutting around in heels when she first started her career, and now she's like a freaking model. She'll be in heels one day, and then in her Keds the next. You never know if you'll see a hot and sassy outfit or a sporty look. She always keeps you on your feet, which makes it fun.

5. She sticks to her roots.

She grew up in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, on a Christmas tree farm. How much more "small-town girl" can you get? Taylor came from a background of country music. She had been writing music since she was a little girl, and she begged her parents to take her to Nashville because "She was gonna get herself a record deal." This was probably the best decision her parents ever made. It wasn't all rainbows and butterflies landing her first record deal. She was denied or let go by many country recording labels before she was the first artist on the newly creating Big Machine Record label. Her roots will always be country; that's why she is such a fantastic writer. Country songs always have lyrics that tell a story. She was known as the country sweetheart for so long, and now she has branched out into the Pop Music World. She isn't a country artist anymore, but she still was chosen for the Pinnacle Award at the CMA's and received the Milestone Award at the ACM's. She is never going to abandon country music, because she has it to thank for a lot of things. I think she will eventually make a return to country music later on in her career.

6. She's wise beyond her years.

She opens her mouth during interviews, and you're like, there is no way that just came out of a 25-year-old's mouth. Her wisdom is not only seen in interviews, but her song lyrics as well. You listen to some of her songs, and you're just in awe of how amazing she is. You can't ignore the fact that Taylor is every mom's dream idol for their child. Fans post pictures on social media with long messages to Taylor for advice, and she writes back with some of the most well-worded responses that leave your heart melting. Her vocabulary is through the roof, and I swear she could be a Best-Selling Author one day. John Green, watch out!

7. She's passionate about everything she does.

Her drive and passion to be the best person and artist is infatuating. She's passionate about feminism in the sense that she wants women to empower other women. We need more women like this in the world. Taylor is a perfectionist in the best way possible. She only wants to give her fans the best. Taylor emphasizes that, "Songwriting is a continuous process. It never stops." She only releases music that she believes will make a difference or is worth listening to. Her songs take minutes to write, but years to be released. She refuses to release a song that has little to no meaning. If she sets her mind to something, it's going to get done. Take for example the fact that she took her music off Spotify, because she believes music has value. She received so much hate for this, but SHE WAS ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. Taylor, along with so many other artists, work so hard on their music that they deserve to be compensated. It's not fair that people can listen for free. Recently, she took a stand for all artists (especially rising artists) when she wrote to Apple telling them that artists must be payed for the use of their music on their new streaming app.

Did I mention she's passionate about her fans? She wants nothing but the best for us. Just take a look at this speech Taylor has been giving before she performs "Clean" on her 1989 World Tour:

"Maybe you lost someone you never expected you would lose. Maybe you lost yourself, that's even worse. When you have bad days that just won't let up, I just hope that you will look in the mirror and remind yourself of what you are and what you are not. You are not your mistakes. You are not damaged goods or money from your failed explorations. You are not the opinion of someone who doesn't know you. You are a product of the lessons that you've learned. You are wiser because you went through something terrible. And you are the person who survived a bunch of rainstorms and kept walking. I now believe that pain makes you stronger. And I now believe that walking through a lot of rainstorms makes you clean."

If that's not passion, I don't know what is.

8. She's a philanthropist.

She is involved in so many great causes. She took on a big role in the "Stand Up to Cancer" movement, where she wrote a song called Ronan about a little boy who passed away from neuroblastoma at 4 years old. All of the money raised from selling the song went to cancer research and treatment.

Sure, I bet you're thinking, Taylor isn't the only celebrity who donates money to good causes. I haven't even gotten to the best part. She visits sick kids in hospitals and spends hours on end with them because she knows they need her. She gives them gifts and sings for them in their own personal concerts. Can you imagine how hard those days are? She sees countless young fans who are fighting cancer or who are slowly losing their battles. That has to take a toll on her, but she will never stop being there for them. Taylor is very particular about where her money ends up. She donates it to fans in need.

Recently, she just donated $50,000 to a fan with leukemia who is having to undergo chemo. This little girl got tickets for Taylor's 1989 Tour for Christmas and can no longer go because of this horrible disease. There is no doubt in my mind that Taylor will be making a visit to this strong little girl. Heck, her fight song is "Bad Blood." The amount of foundations that Taylor has supported over the years is way too many to list, but it's these donations she is making to fans that are the most meaningful.

9. She's a world class performer.

If you haven't been to a Taylor Swift show, you are missing out. No other concerts compare to the magic that goes on in that arena or stadium. There is never a dull moment. She is intimate with her fans, and every show is somewhat different. She pulls out throwback songs that will leave you in tears. I'm telling you, it's like a Broadway show. Delivering powerhouse vocals while keeping fans visually captivated is a task in itself. She does it EVERY show. She has evolved as an artist, and her sound has too. You see it at her concerts as well as her music videos. They are crazy good! Her voice has gotten so much stronger, and she leaves fans in awe. When she hits the high note, you almost pass out (or maybe that's just me). I swear she tops herself on every single tour. It's crazy. She's all bad ass during Bad Blood or I Knew You Were Trouble, and then she sits down at the piano singing such a well-crafted ballad that you can't help but to tear up. You stand there during the show thinking to yourself, "Is this real life?" and you sing your heart out. By the end of the show, you can't hear a thing, you have no voice, and you can't feel your feet. It was all worth it, because you just witnessed a legend in the making, and the QUEEN of music. As Taylor says, "In this moment now, capture it, remember it."

10. She's ridiculously funny and sassy.

She goes from being the biggest dork on the planet to sassy pants in seconds. She's so awkward that it's insanely cute. The best thing is that she doesn't even intentionally try to be funny, which makes it even funnier. She gets criticized for making her surprised face whenever she gets an award, BUT THAT'S HER THING.

Taylor knows she can't dance. So, you really don't need to tell her that. She does it on purpose. YOLO. Am I right? Over the years, there have been so many funny moments that you can find highlight reals on YouTube (yes, I admit I sit and watch these sometimes). They really do make you laugh. They say life is more fun when you learn to laugh at yourself. That's exactly what Taylor does. Shouldn't we all?

Country's sweetheart has a sassy side now, too. She is no longer afraid to speak her mind. This sass follows her on stage. On her first World Tour, she was an awkward little princess, and now she's all hot and bad ass (not going to lie, I sometimes question my sexuality). You would, too. She struts her stuff like a runway model. THOSE LEGS.

11. She cherishes family.

Family has, and always will, mean the world to Taylor. Her parents headed to Nashville to let their daughter chase her dream. She is forever grateful for their never-ending sacrifices for her career, and she is always thanking them. She wrote "The Best Day" about her mom, and how as a young girl she didn't have many friends, so her mom was her rock. She always has been. Andrea Swift, her mom, is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet, too. She and Taylor are so alike that it's crazy -- like mother, like daughter. Taylor has a great relationship with her younger brother and father, too. She gets her awkward quirkiness from her dad. Her dad is the KING OF PHOTOBOMBS. Austin Swift, her brother, shares the same personality. Basically, Taylor has it all. Her family is constantly there for support, and that will never change. I guess that explains why she treats her friends and fans like family, too. She has brought her brother, mother, and father along to red carpet events as her guests countless times. It doesn't get cuter than that. Oh, and don't forget her adorable cats, Meredith Grey and Olivia Benson. I'm pretty sure they are the most popular pets on the planet.

12. She inspires many generations.

Her story itself is inspiring. She was a small-town girl with a BIG dream, and she wasn't taking no for an answer. It all starts with a dream, no matter how young you are, you have to be willing to put up a fight to make it come true. She continues to inspire new artists trying to make it big, and this has to be the biggest compliment. To have little girls saying, "Mom, I wanna be just like Taylor Swift," is much better than hearing "Mom, I wanna be just like Miley Cyrus." Even people that aren't musically talented (me) want to make a difference in the world like Taylor has. She not only proves that anything is possible, but she also shows that you can prove the doubters wrong and to never settle for less than you think you deserve.

13. She outsmarts the haters.

Over the years, Taylor has received more hate than I have ever seen thrown at an artist or celebrity. She has done nothing but handle it with grace. Sure, she's dated plenty of guys, but people forget that she is growing up. She writes songs about them... Yeah, but so do a lot of other artists, men included.

"For a female to write about her feelings, and then be portrayed as some clingy, insane, desperate girlfriend in need of making you marry her and have kids with her, I think that's taking something that potentially should be celebrated -- a woman writing about her feelings in a confessional way -- that's taking it and turning it and twisting it into something that is, frankly, a little sexist."

YOU GO GIRL.

That's how it's supposed to be. Some of the best songs in the history of music come from bad breakups or heartbreak. Let's be honest, if you were in her shoes, you'd do the exact same. Just look at them:

From the boy-crazy hate to the critics saying she can't sing, Taylor has done nothing but prove the doubters wrong. Seven Grammy's, I remind you. She never stoops to the level of the haters, she just laughs it off. Taylor chooses not to give them the time of day. Her music says it all.

If you aren't a Taylor Swift fan yet, it's just a matter of time. Mark my words. She will only grow on you as the years go on.

P.S. Here are my pictures from the 1989 World Tour on 7/13/2015 at NATS Park in Washington, D.C.

It was my 4th show and... TAYLOR NATION moved us front row!!! Taylor pointed at our Taylor and Calvin fat heads during her performance of "Shake It Off" and somehow that was everything.

Thanks T-Swizzle for another amazing concert and the BEST night our lives! Sticking by you forever, and I absolutely cannot wait to meet you one day!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

194095

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
