College football is a tradition. Unlike professional football, there is a certain set of pageantry that exists, and unlike high school, there exists a certain level of talent necessary to succeed. But without getting into it too far, here is why everyone needs to go watch a college football game from the student section:
There is something so different about watching a football game from the student section. You are no longer a spectator of the game; you are a part of the game when you’re in the student section. A year ago, I watched Georgia Tech take on Duke in a thrilling 38 to 35 victory, and throughout the game, I felt as if I was celebrating with Justin Thomas as he ran in a touchdown. And when the Duke running back fumbled, after making a huge 45-yard rush, I was a part of the defense as they cheered. But the immersion isn’t the sole purpose of that section. While there, I, a 16-year-old junior in high school, felt as if I was part of a team with those who were five or six years older than me. And this camaraderie, as we cheered for the white and gold was amazing. I felt like a part of something greater. A part of a college. A part of a unified front, which is a feeling I have only felt with my Packers.
College football provides you something to be a part of. No matter who you are or what you do on campus, college football will unify the entire school as you root for your college. And no matter how small the team, the same principals of the game exist. So if you’re unsure of what to do next Saturday, step outside of your comfort zone, and watch some college football. You may just end up loving it
