Ah, New Year's. A time to reunite with old friends, hit the bar scene and ultimately ring in the New Year with all your favorite people. It’s also a time where everyone decides to reinvent him or herself, thinking of things to improve on for the coming year. Before you make lists including everything you had last year, see if there’s anything on my list that will fit you better.
1. Be healthier.
I’m sure all of us (myself included) have had to go the gym more, lose weight or start a new diet on all of our resolution lists. But that’s not what this one is about. In 2016, I want to have a healthier body, mind and spirit. I want to go to the gym to de-stress instead of binge eat. I want to get enough sleep, eat the right foods to give me energy and drink more water to clear my complexion. I want to try yoga and go hiking. This isn’t a fad diet – I want to become a healthier person with healthy habits to last a lifetime.
2. Be more confident.
One of the things I hoped to gain being at college was confidence and being able to stand on my own. Although I have already made steps towards being independent, I want to focus on growing more and becoming a more confident person. I want to stop being afraid to share my thoughts and opinions with people. Everyone disagrees at some point and the worst someone can say about my idea is "no." I want people to start looking and treating me as an adult instead of a child. I have a lot to offer the world, and this year I want to show it.
3. Try something new.
I, like many people, have had a college bucket list since high school graduation. Although I have completed some of the things on it, this year I want to accomplish more. Whether is traveling to a new place, earning a surprise internship or joining some more organizations on campus, I want to expand and learn about all the great things college has to offer me.
4. Focus on yourself.
Everyone feels the pressure from school, friends, family, jobs, etc. and the combination of it all can quickly feel like it’s too much to handle. We’re always putting others before ourselves and this year I want to be a little selfish. I want to focus on myself and make sure I am in the best place I can be. I want to take some alone time to recharge and make sure my head is always in the right place. If I’m the best me possible, I’ll be able to accomplish everything I have to do and help anyone/everyone that asks, which is exactly what I want.
5. Figure something out.
Although I have no idea what my future holds, I want 2016 to be the year I decide on something. I want to explore my options, find out what I like and dislike doing and learn what I’m good at or can make a future out of. I want to accomplish all of my goals, which will hopefully lead me towards a happy and healthy future.
And combining all of these, I want to make 2016 the greatest, most enjoyable and best year yet. Wishing everyone and happy and safe New Years and a great start to 2016!
