Cheerleading is one of the sports that, in the eyes of most people, isn't usually considered a "real" sport. Well, let me tell you that cheerleading is a sport. Cheerleaders put in their fair share of work for it to be considered a sport. From stunting to tumbling to rooting for the team, cheerleaders do it all. It is their job to entertain the crowd and keep the crowd cheering for the team. But, there are the obvious signs that allow people to tell that cheerleaders are different from everyone else. If you don't know much about cheerleading, check out these signs to help you get a better understanding of it.
And if you were a cheerleader, awesome! Here are signs that you were a cheerleader and how most people were able to tell that you were.
1. Bows
Bows are a cheerleader's best friend. Whether it be at practice, a game or a competition, a cheerleader is always wearing a bow. Bows come in all shapes, sizes and colors. There's always more variety for the cheerleaders. One can never have too many bows!
2. Stunting
Once your stunt group threw a cool pyramid in the air, the majority of people stopped to see what was going on. Once they figured it out, people just stared in awe.
Stunting was always my favorite thing to do as a cheerleader because learning new tricks and moves to do in the air was always fun. Showing off your skills as a group was a blast!
3. Competition
Competition would be all you talked about from the time your team started preparing for it until the time it was over. And if your team won, it was worse because everyone constantly heard the bragging. Outside of football games and basketball games, competition was a cheerleader's life. Some cheerleading teams are specifically for competition, while others cheer at games and compete.
4. Football games
During the fall, football games became your life on the weekends. Every Friday night and/or Saturday night you could be found cheering on your team and rooting for them to win!
5. Basketball games
During the springtime, basketball games became your life on weekends and occasionally took over some of your weeknights. Cheering basketball games were personally not as fun as cheering football games because where I'm from, the parents were more competitive in football than in basketball.
6. Tumbling

Cheerleading is much more than looking pretty. Cheerleaders are what helps to get the crowd motivated and keep the team pumped to win! Cheerleaders need to be able to yell loud, have sharp moves and great facial expressions. Facial expressions are a key to helping keep the pretty face when cheering.
