Sometime after I was born, I was introduced and held by the first of my siblings: My big brother. Though I don't remember this exact moment, because nobody really does remember being an infant, what I would soon find out is that there is and never will be a better protector and influential person in my life than my big brother. For my entire childhood, if someone asked me who my hero was or who I looked up to most, it was always him. "MY big brother makes all A's", I would brag. Or I would say "If you are mean to me, I'm gonna tell my big brother". It was all very adorable, I assure you. There are so many reasons why I needed him growing up and reasons why I still need him today. Just like me, if you have an older brother, you'll know exactly what I mean when I say that my life would have been 10 times worse without him.
Sure, you could have lived without the teasing, the picking, the name calling, and the torture of being " body slammed" on the sofa. If you don't know what a body slam is, think wrestling. But, when you were scared at night, who's room did you run to? I know my answer. The safest place in the whole house was my big brothers room. I knew that no monsters or ghosts could hurt me because he was there to save the day. Of course, as I got older, I didn't need to run to my big brothers room to hide from ghosts, I needed to run to his room because boys were mean and I needed him to beat them up. Still to this day, if a boy hurt me, I immediately feel sorry for the poor guy because I knew my big brother would come to the rescue and it would not end very well.
Another reason why I, and every other girl in this world, need a big brother is because I got to learn from his mistakes. Sorry brother, but this is one of the perks of being the younger sister. I got to see the mistakes you made and tell myself not to make the same ones. Well, I told myself not to get CAUGHT making the same mistakes, anyways. But, I also got to learn from your accomplishments and achievements. I got to learn about hard work and passion and the fact that both of those things lead to success. I learned about overcoming obstacles and trivial parts of life. Lastly, I learned about what unconditional and true love was by watching your relationship with your girlfriend and someone I consider my sister. I learned, I grew, and I still learn and grow right alongside my brother and with his help, I became the person I am today. From the first day he held me and to my last day on Earth, I will always appreciate the large role my big brother played in my life.
So, if you have an older brother and got to learn as much cool shit from him like I did, we are the lucky ones. If not, no worries! Be that influential person to your younger siblings. I'm so glad he got to be mine.
