The Darling Detail

Girl crushes.

Ladies, we have all used this term to describe the Jennifer Aniston's and Blake Lively's of the world. These are the women who have it all together... Or at least it seems like they do. Their look, their career, and their social life is always on point. Let's face it, we crush on these women harder than any shirtless quarterback that we secretly stare at through our Ray Bans while tanning on the beach. I'm all about self-love and loving the person God created you to be, but I'm not going to deny that I have a girl crush, and every detail about her is fabulously darling.

Twenty-three-year-old Jessi Afshin from Austin, Texas is the mastermind behind her fashion and inspiration blog, The Darling Detail. After graduating from the University of Texas, this fashionista dedicated herself to her passion-an attribute we can all admire. It doesn’t matter which social media platform you prefer, because her charm, class, and style are undoubtedly inevitable to love. This girl knows it all and makes it available for all of us to see.

Oh, so you want the latest fashion? Jessi’s got it.

You want the cutest bathing suits of the season? Jessi’s got it.

Don’t forget the sophisticated, chic office attire because Jessi’s got it!

Screenshot, screenshot, screenshot… there’s my shopping list for the week.

I would have to say that my favorite detail of Jessi’s posts is their relatability. She understands her audience and gives us a little taste of her everyday life and the adventures that come with being a fashion blogger. She’s real. (Wow, how many times have you been able to describe someone like that?) While being the bible of the modern fashion world, Jessi lets us in on her reality at the same time. She tells her readers about her love of God, early nights spent snuggling with her adorable sidekick puppy, Chloe, and life advice like in her recent post “Overcoming Fear” (one of my absolute faves!). Jessi’s blog is my favorite never-ending novel that I can’t put down.

My second favorite thing about The Darling Detail-the affordability. Every college student can personally relate to the term “ballin’ on a budget.” Saving money is pretty tough when your friends think it’s acceptable to take on Philly every weekend… city schools problems. Anyways! We all know it’s the best feeling when you get that great deal on your cutest new outfit to add to that over-flowing closet, am I right ladies? Jessi gets that too. If you like any detail of her outfit, it’s a simple scroll and click that will link you to that dangerous “add to cart” button.

I could continue with my favorite things, but it’s your turn to give The Darling Detail a try. It’s your turn to snap a picture of yourself in the Bloomingdales dressing room and send it to your mom with the message, “Would Jessi wear it?” (Yes, that actually does happen to me very frequently). It’s your turn to make every detail of your life fabulously darling.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
