12 Struggles of Being an Emotional Eater

From one fellow emotional eater to another, I understand.

1. Hearing your friends say "I'm so stressed, I can't even eat."

Yeah, I just really can't relate to this problem. It's quite the opposite, actually.

2. You're bound to gain 7 pounds after a breakup.

When a man doesn't love you...you know food always does. And the feelings are ALWAYS mutual.

3. You spend your free time eating in between studying for exams.

Exam time is the most stressful time of the year. I don't think there's a better method to cope with that than stuffing your face and trying to relieve some of your pain.

4. Diets are never possible.

When you eat because you're overwhelmed, dieting is really not an option. You can't automatically get rid of your stress simply because you want to lose some weight.

5. Portion control? Never heard of her.

A bag of chips becomes a meal for one. No shame.

6. Even when your brain says you're not hungry, you'll eat anyway.

Because who has self control in times of stress anyways?

7. Hanger is a common personality trait.

A lot of food plus a lot of mood.

8. There are those certain foods that just make you feel better than others.

For me, it's sour patch kids extreme. Don't even try to give me a bag of peppers.

9. You envy those people who get out their stress through yoga or other mindful approaches.

Warrior one? More like Warrior YUM (haha).

10. Food is both your best friend and your worst enemy.

You hate to love it so much.

11. Drinking can be a dumb decision.

Being drunk and an emotional eater is a recipe for disaster. You'll probably wake up surrounded by wrappers and with a half eaten mozzarella stick in your hand.

12. You don't even care if people judge.

Because I love food and that's who I am.

Yes, emotional eating is a real thing. Yes, it gets in the way and can be incredibly annoying. But no, you're not the only one who eats like a giant when they're stressed or upset, and no, it's nothing to be ashamed of. We all have different way of coping with life, and if yours is to go eat a bag of Doritos, then more power to ya.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
