Dwelling On The Positivities Of Life

There are three things in life that leave and never return: words, time, and opportunities. How we go about dealing with these aspects of life is what influences the outcomes of the obstacles we face. In other words, our mindsets and outlooks on the situations we are faced with practically makes or breaks the results of the situation.

The way I see it, there are two options to consider when going into a new environment in life. Option one: expecting the worst and being negative about everything. Option two: being reasonably optimistic and open-minded. Clearly, option two appears to be the better of the two; however, you would be surprised how many people would consider themselves an option two type of person when in reality, they are an option one person.

Typically, we humans like to think the best of ourselves and portray a positive outlook on life for the most part. There is not necessarily anything wrong with this, unless we are not genuinely optimistic about the happenings of our lives. The issue with this is that we put on a mask that depicts security and contentment while hiding the negative and toxic reality of our perspectives.

Generally, people who go into a new activity or environment with a negative attitude are the ones that complain about it when it is over. Think about it; if you go into a new relationship or friendship expecting the worst, then you will be actively looking for the flaws and setbacks to confirm your suspicions. Going into a basketball game with the mindset that you are going to lose is definitely not going to help you win. Likewise, convincing yourself that you are going to do horribly on an exam will certainly not contribute to a better grade.

Disclaimer: There is a significant difference in being humble and being doubtful; being honest about one's ability is completely different than being insecure and negative.

Instead of being bitter and hateful about what goes wrong, be appreciative and focus on what is going right. I have noticed time and time again that the more positive, or even just open-minded, I am when I approach new things, I find less to complain about. Of course things still go wrong in my life, but when they do I am not bitter and consumed by it. When situations fall through, I do my best to find the positive side and embrace the difficulties. It is impossible to change and to grow into a better person without failing and stumbling. The difference between a good day and a bad day is your attitude, so stay positive and embrace life!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
