Filtered Social Media. Finally.
Are you tired of seeing posts on social media apps such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter that you just don't care about? Have you began spending less and less time on these apps because the people you are "friends" with keep posting things that aren't interesting to you? Well, there's a new solution. Hey! SCU.
This exciting new app was created by Santa Clara University sophomores John Peters and Jack Levitt. Hey! was originally going to be a app where users could take a personality quiz and get matched with people in their area that have the same interests. But as they continued to work on the app and get user feedback, they decided a new social media app would be better. And I agree. Users of Hey! can choose what they are interested in and see posts from other users who have the same interests.
Hey! Concepts:
1. To build a community of like-minded people on campus. Hey! gives people the freedom to post what they want and reach out to people in their community who have similar interests as them.
2. Hey! was made BY Broncos, FOR Broncos.
3. Hey! is all about bringing people together on campus and filtering out your feed to what really matters to you.
Looking Forward...
1. Hey! is for SCU, and they want to make it a great tool for making new friends in your community.
2. The Hey! guys are very open to any suggestions of changes and want to know what interests you would like added to the list!
My Review of the app:
To be honest, I was unsure of it at the beginning. I didn't think I really needed another social media app. I mean, I already have Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat... did I really need another one? But I downloaded it anyway, and I'm glad I did. I was impressed. I thought that the layout was very clean, clear, and easy to use.
There are a few different feeds you can choose from: All My Interests (posts from people who have the same interests as you), My Community (posts from people in your community), People I'm Following (posts from people you're following), and My Posts.
There are also "live feeds" you can look at. These feeds include events happening that day, current events, and trending topics. This allows you to make and see posts about those topics and interact with your fellow Broncos.
Last Friday (4/29), was Hey! Day. The guys of Hey! went all out for this day. They had puppies, a magician, a bagpiper, a mariachi band, fortune cookies, a caricature artist, surreys giving people rides to campus, and even a plane. To say the least, it was pretty awesome. The guys explained to me in an interview how hard they worked to pull together connections and plan this awesome day for a really reasonable budget. This was months and months of planning, and I would say they were very successful.
I know how hard these guys have worked on this app. Their passion, dedication, motivation, and hard work impressed me. They want to be there for users and want to hear your input and feedback. You can contact them on Facebook or by email and offer any suggestions for new interests or anything you want changed. I love the fact that I can see who has the same interests as my in the bronco community and interact with them. I think that this app is a brilliant idea and will be very useful for clubs, the Greek community, sports teams, etc. to spread the word about events, news, and meetings to the rest of the bronco community. I highly recommend this app, and I can see this app going very far. Download Hey! and support your fellow Broncos. You won't regret it! :)
Congratulations to the Hey! guys. I'm very proud of you.
