You can't say you had the entire college experience if you didn't have at least one bad professor.

Whether you graduated from college 30 years ago or are amidst your freshman year, everyone who has been enrolled in college classes has dealt with a bad professor. Today it is a lot easier to reduce the chances of having such a professor. We talk among our friend and peer groups to see which professors to take and which ones to avoid. Although such insight can help us to choose classes with quality professors, sometimes all odds are against us, and we just can't avoid those terrible professors.

Having a class where a professor is bad can make it a miserable semester, but it doesn't have to be. It can be difficult and rigorous both mentally and physically to receive a good grade in that class, but at the end of the day you can still learn a lot from the class. Too many times we let a bad professor get in the way of our learning. We come to college to learn more about life skills and more specifically, a career field. That mission if often obscured when we focus more on professors and how easy or hard it is to pass. If you receive a bad professor, don't let them get in the way of your learning. It isn't easy to have such a professor, but there are things you can do to make the most out of your learning experience.

Unfortunately, when you have a bad professor you will need to try your hardest to adapt to their teaching style, but don't let it get you down too much. If you are having a hard time with their homework or exams, take practices ones online. The internet is chalk full of information and alternative ways to learn material. Another great way to learn and retain material is by the student to teaching method. Gather a group of peers (or friends) that each understand certain material from that class. Then, each take turns teaching what their strong suit is. Not only does this help you to understand topics you were struggling with, but by your teaching what you understand, it reinforces those topics and makes you a pro with them. There are numerous other ways you can learn in a class that does not involve the professor.

College is hard and has what seems like a never-ending agenda. There are students that truly come to classes just to pass so they can their degree and leave. That's why there is the saying "C's get degrees." What sets a student up for success, however, is comprehending and retaining concepts that as a college student we're exposed to. Not everything we learn is fun, and there are professors that can kill an academic passion, but you can't let it bring you down. Every day we have endless opportunities to learn about the world in which we live. Learning is something we all too often take for granted. By realizing how valuable learning is, nothing can get in the way of it. Not even that one bad professor.

Understand the value of learning and don't let that one bad professor stop you from learning.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
