Sometimes, things don’t work.
Relationships, jobs, school, careers, vacations; these things just don’t work out sometimes. And it’s totally okay.
Unpopular opinion, right?
Hard to believe that putting your all into something just for it to completely fail is “okay”. But, it is true. When the outcome of a situation doesn’t go as planned, we are reminded that not everything happens when we WANT it to, but exactly when it NEEDS to.
If a relationship isn’t working out because you just can’t look past the fact that your significant other gnaws on food with the most excruciating noises despite how much you love them; they're not the right person.
If you finally get your dream job after working years to earn that degree and soon realize it’s not what you expected at all; it’s not the job for you.
You get the point. If it’s not what He wants, it’s not gonna happen.
God has designed a specific plan for our lives and so many times we forget this because we mistake our desires as our purpose in life.
Most of the time, our desires are temporary. We try to convince ourselves that the things we WANT are the things we NEED to succeed in life. But when these things are not in the will of God, they are not going to work out correctly in our plans.
Ecclesiastes 3:14 NLT reiterates that;
“… whatever God does is final. Nothing can be added to it or taken from it.”
So, while you try to incorporate that guy who all your friends hate in your life, convincing yourself that he is your “soulmate”, or keep ignoring all the job offers that would give you less stress but don’t pay as much as your soul-sucking current one does; don’t expect a positive outcome.
I am here to remind you that although times may be trialing and outcomes may not go as we hope, don’t be discouraged. He’s got your back.
One of my favorite verses that I reflect on when something doesn’t go my way is Ecclesiastes 3:11 NLT;
“Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time.”
This simple verse brings me comfort in knowing that He has specifically placed a certain time for every moment in my life.
Isn’t that so crazy?
God literally sat there and planned the exact moments that you would get married, have a child, find a job, ace that exam, even buy your own house! He so meticulously plans these milestones in your favor with His absolute love for you.
That’s why it is so important to hold your faith and trust in him. The enemy uses these times of disappointment to swoop in and corrupt your mind questioning God’s love for you;
“Well if God really loved you, why would he let you get denied from your dream college?”
Or
“If God really cared about you, why would he let you lose your job without any notice?”
Times of absolute despair and devastation are the enemy’s peak hours of attack. He sees you at your most vulnerable state, using that to shape your mind in any way he pleases.
But, when you have all your trust in the Lord knowing that his plan is so carefully strategized for your benefit, his words cannot shake you in your foundation in Christ. You will find that instead of feeling discouraged or defeated, acceptance and peace will fill your heart. Finding harmony in a situation that didn’t go as you hoped it would, will show the Lord that you only want what He wants.
When you are willing to give up what YOU desire for what HE desires for you, God will use those moments to not only assure you in a greater future, but will over-abundantly supply you with prosperity.
What I find even more reassuring is knowing that what God has is final. Not only is it final, but it’s also promising. King David’s son encourages us in Ecclesiastes 3:12-13 NLT proclaiming;
“So I concluded there is nothing better than to be happy and enjoy ourselves as long as we can. And people should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labor, for these are gifts from God.”
We have no reason to fear in the timing of our destiny because God already made a plan for us! All we must do is sit back, act on what He calls us to do, and He will take care of the rest.
Piece of cake.
