The 23-year-old singer Demi Lovato went nude in her latest Vanity Fair photo shoot to show women that they can reach a point in their life where they are comfortable in their own skin and that they can overcome their body image issues.
After entering rehab back in 2011 for her eating disorder, Lovato spent years battling with bulimia, self-harm, bi-polar disorder, and drug addiction. She’s brought a lot of awareness about mental health issues by speaking out about the struggles that she faced in the past. She has been a huge role model for young women who have or are struggling with some of those issues.
In her latest interview with Vanity Fair she said, “I would of never thought that I would have ever gotten to a place in my life where I could feel comfortable doing that.” Lovato has learned to love her body and embrace her curves. She’s been on a meal plan and works out as much as she can to live a happier and healthier life.
This photo shoot got a lot of controversial comments online saying things like, “confidence isn’t about posing naked” or “the only reason why people pose naked is to get attention.” Lovato’s intention for this shoot was purely to let women know that they do not need makeup, Photoshop, or clothes in general to feel confident.
In the society that we live in women feel a lot more self-conscious in their appearance because of the way that people perceive beauty. She wants to empower women and let them know that they are all beautiful in their own way and that they do not need to be a size zero in order for them to be beautiful. Despite the arguments with this photo shoot, Lovato continues sharing her message to women about how loving every inch of yourself should be your first priority in order for you to be genuinely happy.
Lovato has reached a place in her life where she is feeling the most confident she has ever felt and this photo shoot reveals that.
