Is there anything better than grabbing brunch with your best friends on a Sunday morning after spending your Saturday night out? The night before you all went your separate ways, and now you need to discuss what you each did over a delicious omelet or maybe some pancakes.
No one can say no to a good brunch spot. Even if you didn't go out the night before, brunch is a great way to catch up with some friends. If you are a college student and are not a fan of brunch, I am sorry, but you are definitely doing college wrong. You need to reevaluate your life decisions and give brunch a second chance. You can always just invite your friends over for some eggs and bacon -- but if you really want to experience the brunch hype, pack your friends in your car and head out to one of Lexington's top brunch spots.
1. FirstWatch at 1080 South Broadway.

If you're looking for a basic brunch place with options for pretty much everyone, FirstWatch is the place for you. The best thing about FirstWatch is that it is conveniently located for most people living off campus as well as those adventurous freshmen who get sick of the campus breakfast options. It is hard to avoid a wait at Lexington brunch spots, but the wait time at FirstWatch is minimal compared to other spots. The free cup of coffee you can help yourself to while waiting for your table is also extremely appreciated.
Try: Avocado, bacon and tomato hash.
2. Great Bagel at 396 Woodland Ave.
Great Bagel is the only bagel shop that you should be setting foot in while in Lexington. I grew up in the bagel capital of the world, so I know what a good bagel is. The only bagels I will accept while away from New York are the bagels at Great Bagel. If you are craving some delicious carbs for breakfast, be sure to head over to this spot. Be warned: if you get to Great Bagel too late, they may run out of some of their most popular bagels. Just a heads up.
Try: NYC bagel.
3. Doodles at 262 N Limestone.
If you are craving some savory biscuits and impeccable house-brewed coffee, head to the edge of downtown Lexington and grab a bite at Doodles. This brunch spot has some of the best eggs and biscuits around. The food is rich, so be sure to show up on an empty stomach. For you bacon lovers: enjoy some of the most delicious, crispy bacon around. Order at the counter and sit down with a hot cup of coffee as you wait for your meal to be served. Doodles can get busy on the weekends, but they always move quickly. Be sure to grab a seat outside on the warmer days.
Try: Lillie's Egg Doodle
4. Josie's at 821 Chevy Chase Place.
Talk about a go-to spot in Lexington. Josie's is definitely a local favorite, so be prepared to wait. Good news: they have complimentary coffee right outside the front door for you to sip on while waiting outside (sometimes in the cold). When I tell you the food is worth the wait, I truly mean it. Their omelets are to die for and their pancakes are extra fluffy goodness. Oh, and do not even get me started on their biscuits. They also have delicious lunch options, so if you are heading to brunch with a breakfast hater (I do not associate myself with those people, but in case you do), there are amazing lunch options as well.
Try: Josie's dad's.
5. Windy Corner Market at 4595 Bryan Station Road.
If you and your friends are feeling extra adventurous and want to eat brunch among horse farms and open land, you need to head out to the Windy Corner Market. It is about a 20 minute drive from campus, so be prepared to wait a little while to eat. Once you get there, if the line to order is out the door (you order at the counter), do not panic: it will be your turn before you know it. Take this time to browse the menu and pick something amazing. You cannot go wrong here, but definitely do not pass up on their biscuits and gravy. You should also get a muffin to bring home with you for later. You probably won't have room for it after your breakfast, but I don't think I have ever had a better muffin in my life. You should give it a try.
Try: The full monty: bacon, eggs, biscuits, gravy, and cheese grits.
6. Alfalfa at 141 E Main Street.
If you want to go somewhere extra unique for breakfast, head to Alfalfa, which is right downtown. As soon as you walk in, you feel extremely welcome and the whole place is just adorable. Another amazing thing about Alfalfa - they proudly serve fresh, local ingredients. The breakfast options at Alfalfa are endless, but the rumor is that you have not truly lived until trying their Griddle Cakes (otherwise known as pancakes). It is their specialty. I myself am more of an omelet girl when I head out to breakfast and let me tell you, their omelets do not disappoint.
Try: Spanish omelette.
7. Wallace Station at 3854 Old Frankfort Pike.
Take a scenic and somewhat lengthy (25 minutes) drive down Old Frankfort Pike to get to this delicious bakery and deli. One of the best parts about Wallace Station is that it is so remote that when you go there, it really feels like your own secret meal spot, no matter how many people are there. Be warned, although their breakfast is delicious, it stops getting served at 11:30 a.m. daily, so plan accordingly. The main breakfast options are different types of breakfast Paninis, which are served on different bread options baked daily at their own Midway Bakery. If you head to Wallace Station for brunch, but do not get there until after 11:30 a.m., just stick around and get lunch. You did drive 25 minutes to eat there! If this happens to you, do not forget to order the truffle fries -- you will thank me later.
Try: The breakfast brown panini.
8. Wild Eggs at 3735 Palomar Center Drive.
Wild Eggs may not be specific to just Lexington, but it does not make it any less special. Head to Wild Eggs and you will enjoy one of the best breakfasts around. If you are not a fan of eggs, do not shy away from this unique joint. The name does not say it all here; there are plenty of options beyond egg-centric meals. These options include waffles, pancakes, and French toast. It is a carb lover’s dream come true. The great thing about their egg dishes is that other than the normal egg breakfasts, they go above and beyond to try out new things. Wild Eggs pushes the limits on their egg dishes. They don't call it Wild Eggs for nothing.
Try: Frito bandito frittata.
