10 Things To Know Before Dating A Sorority Woman
Kayla Perez

Greek life is definitely its own world. Now whether you decide to enter into this world is completely a personal choice. However, if you are wanting to date a girl in Greek life, here are some of my tips for making a smooth entrance into the relationship.

1. Don't perpetuate the stereotypes

Yes, we party and have fun. But we are so much more than just chanting and partying. We are multifaceted women who are heavily involved on campus and serious about our future careers. We joined a sorority to enjoy college and flourish within a community of women that not only accept us for who we are but also to celebrate the diverse nature of each and every woman.

2. We are crazy busy

We are college students after all. So with juggling internships, school, work, and multiple other activities, please don't get upset when we don't text back immediately. Duty calls.

3. We take school seriously

Believe it or not, being in a sorority is not just Monday night meetings and dressing up in weird costumes for events. We are actually excited for our future careers and work hard to achieve them. So, be prepared for us to cancel a date or two because we have midterms or a huge paper due. School comes first. Always.

4. We are loyal as hell

We joined a sisterhood for life, so of course, we will be fiercely loyal. Just because we go out and have friends in a fraternity does not mean we will cheat on you. Have some trust.

5. We are actually friends

In contrast to what Hollywood portrays, we actually like each other and hang out most of the time. Spoiler alert: We may even live with each other. So, don't think that you can hook up with one of our sisters and us not find out about it. Girl code is real.

6. Recruitment!!!!

Be prepared to not see us for about a week. We disappear into the ever-flowing sisterhood abyss that is recruitment. When we reunite, we may want to sleep for another week. Just warning you now.

7. Event themes

8. No boys allowed upstairs

Sorry to break it to you, but you can't stay over. If you want to visit a house full of girls that will turn their heads the minute they sense testosterone in the room, then please be my guest. But only between the hours of 6 a.m. and midnight. I'll leave that one up to you.

9. Brunch!!!!

On the plus side, you can come over on Fridays to get some bomb ass brunch. We have an omelet bar, just saying. #BlessChefEmma

10. We are individuals, so treat us like it

Just because we wear matching shirts and sometimes look alike does not mean we are all the same. All of us come from different backgrounds and upbringings, so clearly we have our own opinions and values. The sorority is only part of our identity. Please don't assume that we all think alike and are walking sorority robots. Treat us like an individual and we will do the same.

When all is said and done, sorority women are just looking for a place to have fun and gather a sense of belonging. In the end, we are still college students trying to figure our lives out and learn from our mistakes along the way. So, when dating a sorority woman, I recommend you keep these ten things in mind. She will thank you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
