"Dating" used to be a middle school and high school word that meant you were in a relationship with someone. Most of the time, those two people would "break up" in two weeks, and that was that. Now as I grow up, I look at all those ridiculous relationships and see that it was all a stupid relationship game of who could date who.
I couldn't wait to get out of high school and into college. Yes, I had an unsuccessful first year of college and decided to change schools and majors. I ended up going to a community college and majoring in English and Literature. It was exactly what I wanted.
You've probably gotten this far and are wondering who has a disability. Well, both me and my fiancee do. I have a muscular disability called Spinal Muscular Atrophy, where my muscles will get weaker over time. My fiancee has Cerebral Palsy, which is a birth defect of the brain and therefore, for both of us to walk long distances, we are forced to use wheelchairs or scooters.
Ever since I was young and started to focus on the world of boys, I never thought to look at boys who had disabilities like me. I wanted to live in a world where a boy could sweep me off my feet and look past my disability. When I met my fiancee, I never thought he would be that ... my fiancee.
We met in a math class and ever since then, it has been a year and a half of love, arguments and wedding planning. We have our ups and downs and are learning how to live together with both of our disabilities. Every day is a struggle, but we are getting through it, one day at a time. This will be our happily every after.
The dating world was a struggle, but I'm ready for future life. The life that comes with the ups and downs, but ends with a kiss goodnight.
