A Thank You Letter To My Dad

A Thank You Letter To My Dad
Taylor Kahn

This letter doesn't even begin to say how grateful I am to have someone as incredible as you in my life. Thank you times a billion.

Thank you for your honesty:

You are one of the only people in my life who I can count on to tell me the truth, even if I don't want to hear it. Your bluntness, something I (maybe not so luckily) inherited, is incredibly annoying and even though I don't always want to hear your opinions, I usually need to. Thank you for trying to steer me in the right direction and for always giving me your honest advice, even though I may not take it.

Thank you for your unconditional love:

Just by being your daughter I know that love exists. The world is cruel and people genuinely suck, but you remind me everyday that there is such a thing as unconditional love and I shouldn't settle for any man (or person) who makes me feel anything less than. Anyone I potentially fall in love with will have to uphold the unbelievably high expectations you have put into place.

Thank you for your understanding:

My teenage years might have been rough (understatement of the century right there), but you always tried your best to understand just what I was going through that made me such an angsty little jerk. I might not have talked about why I was such an angsty little jerk, but your door was open and I feel now that I could talk to you about anything and you would understand. You try your best to know me as a person and that will forever be enough for me. Your ability to just tryyyyy is unbelievable. You might not always know what to say, but that's okay, because you get there with just a little time and some words of encouragement from your better half. Thanks for truly understanding me, even when I know it's really hard.

Thank you for your humor:

Thank you for doing your best to make me laugh, even when all I wanted to do was cry. Thank you for passing on your sense of humor, even though a lot of people truly don't understand the complexity of the "dad joke," it honestly brings me so much joy to share all these stupid little inside jokes with you that are mainly puns involving our last name or types of food.

But thanks for being you. You have set unreachable standards for any man who tries to pursue me and for that, thank you. You are my heart and my soul and I wouldn't be the person I am today without you and for that, I am #blessed. Love you to pluto and back, daddio.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
