The holidays are upon us. Soon, families will come together to celebrate the holiday season. It's a time for giving as well as being thankful for what we have in our lives. But it seems that people this year are forgetting about what is truly the spirit of the holidays and are instead focusing on things that are not what the season is all about.
Recently, Starbucks came out with their holiday cups. In the past, they were seen to have anything from snowflakes to ornaments. This year, the company decided to go on a different route. They instead decided to go with a plain red design for their cups this holiday season. Starbucks vice president, Jeffrey Fields, said the company "wanted to usher in the holidays with a purity of design that welcomes all of our stories."
Now this has many people angry. Some people have even gone to the extreme and have said that it is a "war on Christmas." It has even resulted in people telling the barista to write "Merry Christmas" instead of their name.
But it is just a cup. A cup does not define the holiday season. Your attitude does.
The holiday season is not about cups having fancy designs. It is about celebrating a time of joy and happiness among all. No matter what holiday you celebrate, the reason for the season remains the same.
I personally have always loved the months of November and December. There is always something about this time of year where it feels like everyone puts aside their worries and see what they are truly grateful for and are able to celebrate all the great things we have in life.
This holiday season is going to be what you make of it. If you are going to be a Scrooge and throw a fit over the new holiday cups for Starbucks, then there is nothing stopping you. But think about the more important things in life than a cup. Think about your family and friends. They are way more important than a cup that you will throw out as soon as you are done drinking out of it.
Let's get excited for what's to come. Before you know, people will be filled with the infectious holiday cheer that this season tends to bring to each and every one of us.
Happy Holidays!
