College itself is something crazy. Here you are, being thrown into a brand new school, trying to find brand new friends, and adjusting to the madness that is college life. These are the thoughts that really make the college life surreal and even downright scary.
1. What if I change my mind about my major midway through college?
College is a ton of money. Each class can be hundreds of dollars without even counting the books that come with it. Changing majors is one of the scariest thoughts college students have. The idea of maybe spending two more years at college, blowing even more money, and dealing with the stress of more classes is breathtaking. Also, the thought of "maybe I should have stuck with my old major" lingers in students' minds after they actually do change their major.
2. How will I adjust to the real world straight out of college?
It really is hard to wrap your mind around the fact that when you graduate, you are immediately thrown into the real world. That means finding a job, maybe an apartment, and taking on the boatload of responsibilities that comes with "being an adult." As fun and long as college may seem, it ends quicker than you expect. Before you know it, you'll be ordering your graduation ticket. From then on, you're on your own. It will start to feel like the first time you rode your bike without training wheels.
3. Is this college really right for me?
Changing schools is not something that uncommon amongst college students. But admitting that you are considering transferring is something that most college students have trouble speaking about. To think you spent maybe a year, possibly even two, finding all these new friends and taking all these classes, just change to a different school and start again is incredibly daunting. Congratulations, you have to start all over again. Coming to grips with that thought is something no college student wants to do.
4. Do I really need to know this stuff?
Have you ever been studying or listening to something in class and you have no clue what the professor is talking about, so you say to yourself, "Do I need to know this?" We all think it all the time. When you say that to yourself, you start to question everything. The thoughts of, "Is this major too hard?" "Can I even handle this?" or "Do I even want to do this?" cycle in your head. It makes you freak out inside, no matter if you want to admit it or not.
These are just a few of the crazy thoughts that go through an average college student's head. College can be hectic at times, so keeping your cool is the key to surviving.
