The newest Cover(Girl) has our hearts!
The newest face of CoverGirl is in fact, not a girl at all! James Charles is a 17 year old boy with a passion for makeup, and the talent for it, as well. He went viral on the social media sites, Instagram and YouTube. Since then, his beauty techniques and rituals have been loved and praised by girls everywhere. This is a bit of a controversial topic to some, however, I believe that the broadening of the fan base and audience was a very smart move on CoverGirl's part. I mean, who could turn away someone with such intricate skills for cosmetics?
Despite James being a male, his smile and bright personality have caused teens everywhere to believe in their own self-confidence. He is a role model for all of the boys that are scared of being judged for what they like and the way that they act. This also has impact on the girls who needed a little restoration of faith to the cosmetics company and what the company stands for. When James started on YouTube about a year ago, he started off with basic videos on how he applies his foundation and some simple looks that he likes, such as his famous "fake freckle" look. Once he began building a fan base, he began experimenting with more complicated and intricate styles, which only helped to add to his existing fan base even more.
James has found the time to not only work with the editors and designers of CoverGirl Magazine, but to also put himself out there to be contacted by other professionals who want to book him for different opportunities. He keeps up with his social media accounts (Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter and YouTube) on a regular basis, and is pretty open about working with other people. James is also still in school, which understandably keeps him busy along with the opportunities that have been (and will be) lined up for him. He is an outgoing and humorous kid who is loved by millions, and his strength of personality only attests to that.
Even though James is internet famous at this point, he's still human! He reported to New York Times that he was shaking when doing a photo shoot with Katy Perry, as well as the fact that he does not stand for hate on his accounts. James states that he does not usually respond to hate about his passion for makeup, however he does take action to rude and hateful comments that bash his personality. He understands that everyone is not always going to be OK with the fact that he is a male and wears makeup, but he does not tolerate the hate that is aimed at his character. Keep standing up for what you believe in James, and keep doing what you love!
