Coping With The Hardest Goodbye

It's not your family. Not your friends from home...it's your pet.

Coping With The Hardest Goodbye

Let's just be honest, it's not your friends from home, it's not your siblings, or parents. Not your bed, home cooked meals, not summer. It's your pet.

I had a harder time saying goodbye to my dogs than anyone or anything else. If you didn't then you don't have pets which is sad or you don't have feelings which isn't sad because you obviously don’t feel that emotion.

If you're already missing your furry or no haired friend (I’m not judging) while you’re away at school, here are some steps to handle this void.

First, print every picture you have ever taken of your pet and then tape them to your wall right next to your bed. Pictures of them sleeping are the best because it’s like they are in your company while you’re sleeping.

Next, get stuffed animals that look like your pet and snuggle all the time. Never let that thing go, you can stroke it and it’s like they are still there with you. It won't be the same, but it will have to do.

When you are following these steps people who have never known love, aka never owned a pet, will think you are a bit weird, crazy, or insane. That is OK, not everyone understands the struggle. And they never will.

If this isn’t enough, you can take some steps to the next level.

You could take their leash with you and occasionally take that leash out for a walk. Every two hours is what dogs need so that is about how many times you should take your leash on a walk. It will be like they never left. If you want to get fancy you can put your stuffed animal on the leash so you get less stares.

If that is not enough, take a bit of their food with you and their bowl. Fill it up at dinner time with you. Now you never have to eat alone.

It may even lead to you buying your pet an iPhone so they can FaceTime you. Download Snapchat for them so they can send you late night pics.

These are just a few steps to get you through. If it’s not enough then just bring them along for the ride.

If anyone thinks that these steps are a bit extreme, then they truly don’t know what it’s like to be separated from the best thing in the world. It’s terrible.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
