Thank You to the Ones I Left Behind

A dog is a (wo)man's best friend.

Thank You to the Ones I Left Behind

Most people have dogs, or knock- off dogs, otherwise known as cats. Dogs truly live up to their reputation as man’s best friend, and leaving them behind to go to school, is not and never will be something I can handle emotionally. So this is an apology/thank you to my furry little humans that have changed my life for the better. So puppies, I’m sorry for leaving and I hope you know that I wanted to take you with me, but they don’t exactly allow dogs in dorm rooms (I’ll work on that). Being without you for the past few months has made me appreciate your existence more than I already did and I just wanted to thank you for all you’ve done over the years and for being my best friends.

For starters thank you for always greeting me and jumping all over me when I walk in the door. Whether I’ve been gone for 5 minutes or 5 hours you always give the same reaction, and I know I can always count on you to be there when I come home.

Thank you for all the annoying things you do. Without you guys my life would be pretty boring. You never disappoint when I need some excitement around the house, like that time you ate Mom’s kindle, or her paycheck, or B.J.’s new glove. You always manage to impress me with how much you can eat and still not get sick. How do you do it? Although I could do without you eating my socks.

Thank you for cuddling with me every night when we go to sleep and for hogging my bed so much that I basically fall off the edge, but you know I’d never make you move. And thanks for waking me up at 6 am by pawing me until I get up to let you out. As annoying as it is, you’re too cute for me to be mad at.

Thank you for being my running partner, and for always being down for a walk to the beach to see the sunset. Also thank you for swimming in the water when I specifically tell you not too and then rolling around in the mulch forcing me to give you a bath. And yes, by bath I mean shower.

Thank you for always listening when I rant, cry, scream, or vent to you, and for the guaranteed no judgement. Thank you for noticing when I'm upset and for cuddling right up next to me, which cures my sadness every time. You always know how to cheer me up, even though you can't say a word.

Thank you for helping me finish the food left on my plate, and for helping me open presents on my birthday. Thank you for jumping onto the float when I’m trying to tan in the pool and for always participating in my nobody's home dance parties. There's nobody quite like you.

Most of all, thank you for being a part of our family. You are home to me. Your faces, wagging tails and seemingly never ending amounts of dog hair are what make this house whole. I miss waking up to your faces. I miss coming home every day and being greeted by puppy kisses and high five-ing paws. I’m sorry that I had to leave, and I hope you understand when I tell you why I did. Don't worry though, I’ll always come back, you know I couldn't live without you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
