Being a college student can be difficult. But being a college student who doesn't know how to deal with their anxiety and stress can be even more difficult. This doesn't just apply to college students; anybody can get easily overwhelmed and stressed with the things that they need to do. If you have anxiety, it can be even worse because stress can easily trigger your anxiety.
Here are some things I have learned that help me cope with my anxiety and stress. Hopefully, these will help you too.
1. Listen to music
Try and block everything out. Find a quiet room, put your headphones in, close your eyes, and just listen to some of your favorite music.
2. Deep breaths
First, take a deep breath and let it out slowly and repeat. Controlling your breathing is a big essential when you feel stressed. It can help slow your heart rate because when you get worked up, your heart rate tends to speed up.
3. Color
Grab one of those "adult coloring books" and color your heart out. Coloring can really bring out some emotions. For example, red usually represents anger and blue usually represents calmness. It's a good way for you to look back and reflect on how you were feeling in that moment.
4. Take a nap
Some people look at taking a nap too often as a sign of depression if you do it too often. However, if you're stressed and overwhelmed, a nice little nap is sometimes all it takes to get you back on track.
These are just some coping skills that I personally use, and they help me. I hope they can help you too!
